So someone I know has this and wants to try and regulate it..sometimes her cycle is like 50-60 days long so its really not good for her…does anyone know if evening primrose oil tablets help? or multi vit tablets? or cod liver tablets?
any1 know of any other way 2 regulate it without taking the contraception tablet?
My elder sis used to have it and she used to have garam foods around the time and that used 2 help her start..but im tinking multi vits shud also help...
Tabu - taking the pill would just give the illusion of regular periods anyway. The monthly bleed on the pill is not real menstruation… it’s breakthrough bleeding. For example, if you were to stop the pill two weeks into a pack, most people would have this bleeding then.
PCOS, like type II diabetes is something that needs to be managed. Most women find that diet is the most effective method. A lot of PCOS women are over weight and told to lose weight and change their diet.. they then find the periods become more regular and other symptoms lessen (i.e. acne if they have it). But you don’t have to be overweight for your diet to be causing problems. Some women with PCOS are thin but accumulate a lot of stomach fat.. the diet, usually high in carbs is a culprit.
Vitex is a a natural herb that can help regulate your period. But, it is not right for everyone. I have pcos, and vitex helped me. My cycle can last from anywhere between 34-40 days, and I never know when to expect my period. When I started vitex I started to get a period every 30 days, and I had proper signs of ovulation as well. I also added a multivitamin to my diet. There are some side-effects of vitex, but for me the only one I noticed was a rash on my arm. But I could deal with that if my period was normal.
I have now started to work out 5 days a week, and try not to eat junk food (its hard, and I still sometimes indulge).
If she is trying to conceive, there are other meds the doctor can give her that will help with her period (other than birth control)
Tbh not much… The gp suggested me the pill many times, as if that will solve anything. =/ My case is more “severe” because i get periods every 4-5 months, since i started menstruating at the age of 10. Also having lots of tensions and losing 10 kg (underweight) in a short period made it more irregular. I assume I have PCOS, not sure yet, and considering diet but yeah
hmmm interesting guys....I was looking at another forum and they suggested taking soy isoflavons as that help a lady have ovulation which in turn would regulate ur periods....any experience with this? Also, where can you buy Vitex from?

I think vitex is another word for Agnus Cactus (also known as chaste tree berry). I have read that Agnus Castus can be a useful natural treatment for PCOS and has been used to help regulate female hormones for centuries. I am trying my luck with it and have bought capsules from holland and barratts. I'm currently taking 2 tablets a day (1 tab is 400mg). I am combining that with 1 capsule of folic acid ( also from H&B). A week in so will deff update you on any changes!! My periods are notoriously known to be irregular!! I don't have periods for months! Lets hope this will help to regulate and help me conceive!
Hey, have you been to the GP about this (stress, weightloss, irregular periods)? Could be nothing or it could be thyroid related… it can also cause irregular periods.

you can buy it at any health food store, or even online at amazon.com. But be careful when ordering online, because some of the capsules are made of gelatin (halal issue if you are concerned about that). There is a liquid form (called tincture), and that is vitex extract, and there is no halal issue with that. You just have to mix a few drops with water and drink it (read the instructions though).
I have also heard of saw palmetto, however have never tried it. But I have read on other forums that it has helped a lot of women as well.
