is any one suffering from PCOD & has tried homeopathy??? im despo to know abt it…is it effective??? r v completely cured with the treatment …
Re: pcod
you mean pcos?
Homeopathy DOES NOT WORK.
I can't stress that ENOUGH. It CANNOT cure you of pcos. Only hormone therapy and medication for pancreatic problems can treat it (progesterone, birth control pills, metforim, etc).
Please read this:
In homeopathy, a solution that is more dilute is described as having a higher potency. More dilute substances are considered by homeopaths to be stronger and deeper-acting remedies. The end product is often so diluted that it is indistinguishable from the dilutant (pure water, sugar or alcohol).
That means that the LESS of an herb or drug in the mixture, the MORE it's support to be effective. Does that make sense? Of course not.
Ever heard of Placebo Effect, Matinee??
It does not work with PCOS. PCOS causes multiple problems within the system. It causes the pancreas to malfunction and often leads to diabetes, causes hormonal imbalance that leads to heightened testosterone, causes the inability to have periods, the formation of cysts, and the lining of the uterus to build up (due to lack of periods), and thus cause uterine cancer.
Placebo's are merely used in experimental settings to gauge pain. They cannot and never have fixed a problem such as this.
Re: pcod
Ok that was a question, not a crtisicm ... and the reason that I asked is that I just finished reading a book called "13 things that dont make sense" and last two chapters are on Placebo and Homeopathy ..
The book is about phenomenans that are working though lack scientific explanations..
so it looks like the homeopathy does work, though as you mentioned, its all about dilution that does not make sense cause sometimes the actual medicine is almost not there anymore, cause the dilution took place so many times.

I tried homeopathy for two years concerning my PCOS. It didn't do anything for me, and in fact let me become sicker because of it.

but with PCOS its hard to conccieve and even loose weight. i had it and i couldnt loose weight whatever i tried and doctor told me that the cure for pcos is losing weight.
Hina tell your friend to loose weight ASAP and it will help in most of her problems.
Re: pcod
so shud i tell her to forget about the medication and just try losing weight? ...and ur rite , she is finding it hard to lose weight
Re: pcod
^ She should take the pill to make her period come so that the uterine lining does not build up. As Matinee said, it can cause uterine cancer if that natural cleansing doesn't happen. The weight gain from birth control pills is normally minor (5-10 pounds), if at all.

No she should take the pills to get her periods on routine. normal periods are very important as well. and my cousin who use to get periods twice a month, used to take birth control pills to regulate and never gained weight. i know many people who did, including my mom who used to get periods after 15 days.
but weight loss is important for pcos.
she should loose weight and take the pills to regulate her periods.
ok thanx guys will let her know :)

I had irregular periods since I started periods at the age of 12 and a half. In the beginning, we figured it's my body's way of adjusting to the change but even with the passing of time and everything else working just fine, we never thought I could have PCOS.
I have always taken homeopathic medicines. For any and everything. My family doctor is a homeopathic doctor and that has always worked very well for us. Trust me, when I have allergies and need to take something, I take children's benadryll and it works wonders since I don't ever take allopathic meds.
But..
Homeopathic meds did not work for my PCOS. I wasn't even diagnosed with PCOS till a month and a half ago..! I took homeopathic meds for my period problem from when I was 12 and a half till now and it did not work -- at all.
I never gained weight because I am very athletic and toned. I could eat anything and never gain a pound.
Then, recently, I started gaining weight. Not 'fat' but very unusual for me. I shot up to a 153 lbs! I never ate wrong or anything but perhaps it was my body's way of telling me I needed to do something about it.
I had gone to some doctors a few years back and they were terrible. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with me?!?! Because I felt fine otherwise, they thought I was just "going through a phase"...
Anyway, then someone referred me to a specialist that I saw 5 weeks ago. She was excellent! One meeting and she said I had PCOS. I had always suspected it but when all my tests used to come out normal, I would scrap the idea. She did specific tests and procedures and confirmed I had it. However, my case was not extreme. She explained I would not have any major problems in conceiving when I chose to get pregnant and that this was something she could fix.
Relieved, I took her prescribed meds for 5 days, got a period and 5 weeks later dropped 20 lbs. I am now waiting for the second period according to the program.
Moral of the story, although homeopathy works wonders for many other cases, for others, it's just not the right choice. Sometimes you need to look into 'all' your options before you can find good treatment.

Re: pcod
^I have PCOS and am doing a low carb, low sugar diet. Been on it for 2 weeks now and have already lost around 5 kg (10 pounds). Do some light excersize with it results will be even better! Good luck
i have had irregular periods since they started sometimes 1-2 a year). and then some excess hair. i suffered for a long time dealing with this, not knowing best ways to handle this situation. i would go to the doctors in college. they suggested pcos, but there was nothing definite. i had elevated prolactin during college. this can cause irregular periods, but i couldn't figure out what caused it. they checked me for pituitary tumors, and everything came out clear. they said sometimes it can be very small so hard to see on an mri. prolactin can also be elevated due to stress.
after college and since i have been working, pcos came up again as a possibility, but testing revealed no cysts. so then i did not know what it could be. for the first three years of marriage we did not want children, so it was not a big deal. i just took the provery every few months, for the sake of my own health to make my period come.
now for a year we have been trying to conceive naturally, eventho my gyn suggested i see a specialist earlier, since i do not menstruate/ovulate often. anyway, so no luck conceiving yet. i've been seeing a specialist and they woud like to start me on clomid after all of the preliminary testing is complete.
i should do it?
Clomid is excellent when it works for you! Try it a few cycles in combination with Provera and see if it works for you. They'll probably give you 50 mg first and depending on whether it works for you or not (eg triggers an ovulation) they'll higher the dosage upto 100mg or 150 mg (max).
I say go for it and good luck!

Loosing weight with PCOS can not only be hard but a little tricky as well. The body is almost 'swollen' and even if you gain a pound, you feel like you've ballooned up to an extra 5..! I know, I've been there. I had always been naturally skinny and because I was very athletic, weight was never an issue even though I had always had PCOS. But then I started gaining weight. I ballooned to 153 pounds and there was no stopping it! My doctor made me go on the South Beach diet. It is an excellent diet for people with PCOS. So I did. I am now 129 pounds and feel so very healthy. I go to the gym 5 times a week and eat right. I am also on Provera at the moment and it seems to be working. Try South beach.... it's excellent..!
Good luck.. :)
Re: pcod
Hi,
Pcos is a Poly cystic ovarian syndrom. The best treatment is with metform called Glucophage 500 mg twice per day for four to five months.Periods would be regular and if there are too much and many cysts after ultra sound then operation is best option.
Good luck
