Time to restart the countdowns.
Since there is no REAL countdown anywhere online these days.
Here are my top 10 choosings for December 2011.
**I pick these videos because there is something unique about them, or the songs.
**
Beautifully shot. Newcomer Sheryar Mirza (well he’s not that new - he’s been making music for some time but unnoticed), with a crisp video. Good composition. Meld of English and Urdu.
Usman Riaz. Perfection.
They revel in their instruments, and I revel in their music.
Shehzad Roy - still hot. I’m nearly 30 so this guy must be nearly 40. STILL HOT. But I do not rank this song highly cuz of Shehzad Roy, but his mast desi rapper. Now that’s unique.
Atypical. Atypical video, vocals, and music. Natasha Ejaz, you rock it chic.
English lyrics. Not sure, but I THINK they’re singing to all the poor daakus and such in the country. A social message. Basic simple video, with no pretenses. The composition of the song is just simple and nostalgic.
And for a change in flavor…a new rising generation of Pakistani rap. I have to say…Yaruq is quite the IN thing. He’s got rhythm.
Simple catchy composition, and Bilal’s Khan’s voice is pure meethas. It’s got a Nur. And innocence. And then the video has such a comfortable feel to it.
Adil Omar is probably one of the most CRASS newbie artists producing music currently in Pakistan. Not sure about this background, but his music seems disconnected with the culture of Pakistan. Maybe he is an ABCD stuck back in Pakistan? Regardless, he is in tune with the soul of Pakistanis. He just doesn’t sing in their language.
I still maintain he is CRASS. It’s like … it’s horrible, but you can’t stop staring.
Free speech. You can make money and gain fame by trash talking politicians, now. Gone are the PTV days.
