PCB trial matches - Results

Homies, this is the way we discover talent. When I read the story, my reaction was like WOW. Nice to see PCB management willing to take as many chances as they want by inviting youngsters from all over the country. If some of our Sr. players get injured or unable to perform according to the expectations, these new guns will be use for back-up. Hopefully, those youngsters will make their way in upcoming series in Sri Lanka and England; and home-series against Bangladesh and South Africa.

Nice goin’, Aamir Bhai.

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) national selection committee Tuesday invited 76 cricketers to appear in the two-day trials to be held at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Wednesday (today) and Thursday (tomorrow).

Those impressing the selectors will be retained in a pool of 60 players. The players will be equally divided into five teams for matches to be played from April 18 to 24 in Lahore. The schedule of the matches is being finalized by the PCB’s cricket operations department.

“The idea for this exercise is to identify the talent and expose them before the newly-appointed selection committee. The process would also help the selectors in picking Pakistan teams for the forthcoming assignments”, a spokesman for the PCB said.

Pakistan will tour Sri Lanka and England in the next two months and is also scheduled to host Bangladesh and South Africa between August and November.

Aamir Sohail, selection committee chairman, said: “Some slots are still available for grabs in the Pakistan cricket team. We want to have, at least, two to three back up players for every place so that if a top performer is not available for any reason, the replacement is equally good.”

Aamir said the five teams for the 15 matches will be announced on Thursday evening. “We have to blend youth with experience and until we are not sure of what is available, we can’t proceed. The boys for the trials have been picked on their domestic performances and on the recommendations of match referees and umpires”.

Aamir said some of the enterprising and talented players may also be recommended to attend coaching at the National Cricket Academy which is likely to get operative in May.

Aamir admitted that the names of some current Test players featured in the probables invited for trials, saying: “Players like Muhammad Zahid and Naved Latif were in the team for Sharjah but they didn’t get the opportunity to play. Therefore, we just need to make sure if they are fit and how far they are technically correct. There is no element of disrespect to these players”.

I was gonna post this. good going by the PCB.

though I wonder how much time they'll allocate to each player given that they're watching 76 players in two days. but the above guys I'd like to see involved with the Pak team somehow. Heard good things about them.

that the way to go about.....gotta make them work to get in.....they gotta prove it that theyre worth it

I am very surprised to see the name of Hasan Raza in the probable's list, he did so well against Australia but still he hasn't cemented his place in the team. Why is he being screwed again?

According to DAWN, there were close to 90 Cricketers, who showed up at trials. Teams will be named on Thursday at the conclusion of the trials.

Oh btw, two selectors were absent. Aisa Bhi Hota Hai.

Probably, an hour or so.

LAHORE, April 16: As many as 90 cricketers appeared onthe opening day of two-day trials on Wednesday to scan the talent available in the country for the national cricket team.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday named 76 probables but more players turned up at Gaddafi Stadium to exhibit their talent before the national selection committee.

**Chairman of selectors, AamirSohail, with two members of the committee - Shoaib Mohammad and Shafiq Ahmed - watched theprobables. The other two selectors, Farrukh Zaman and Saleem Yousuf, were absent. **

While announcing the list of probables, the PCB’s selectors as usual resorted to indulge themselves in their mischievous pastime by ignoring several deserving candidates.

**Among those to be overlooked was Shadab Kabir, who has played in Tests and One-day Internationals.

The talented left-hander, a consistent run-getter in domestic competitions, was named in the provisional list of 30 World Cup probables in December. **

The selectors will form five teams to play trial matches from Friday to Wednesday at Gaddafi Stadium. The teams will be named at the conclusion of the trials on Thursday.

i heard these guys will be split into teams n they'll play against each other after which the best players will be selected

I read 90 players around Pakistan showed up for trials, instead of 76.

Pakistan hai sab chalta hai .Don't get shocked if some players are selected who rae not even invited for the camp ;)

I think this thing has been done in past too, not a new thing. But its good to see that other talent is being looked for as replacement/alternative.

Where are all the Karachi Cricketer?

I See 90% Players are from Lahore, Where are all the Karachi Cricketers?

29 players are from Lahore and 11 from Karachi. 36 from other places.
90% of 76 players is 68.4 players, not 29.

So what is the point?

For your information, the coach and the captain of this team are from Karachi.

I think this is one of the stupidest issues that a Pakistani can concern himself with. I'm a Punjabi (for all the moron who are into regionalism) but I'm in love with Karachi. There's no place I'd rather be other than Karachi.

point is get your head out of the gutter and see the sunlight.

Al right, teams and schedule have been announced.

Re: Re: Where are all the Karachi Cricketer?

:k: agreed. “nationalism” is no more a issue in Pakistani cricket, esp after departure/ban of Saleem Malik.

This stupid Karachi/Lahore issue :smack: Jupiter, seems like you have been with Sarfraz NAwaz lately :hehe:

Anyways Moins appointment is really intersting. First of all, Moin was very effective as an opener in recently concluded domestic oneday competition, and maybe Team management thinks that trying him as an opener in oneday internationals is a good idea. I think that could be a great idea, as Hafeez and Taufiq both are relatively grafters and we need a dasher in initial overs agaisnt good sides chasing big totals. Point to be noted here that Moin is not chosen as wicket-keeper. He is chosen as a batsman/captain. :k:

No thanks Saby baji, Rashid Latif has proved to be a worty captain, we don't need no team rifter/Wasim butt kisser Moin back, he is fine where he is.
Rashid Latif all the way!!

btw- main reason more punjabis play cricket than sindhis is because they are better cricketers, they have better physiques.

:nono4: :nono4: any wayz moin is a better and more aggressive batsmen than rashid, although rashid has proved recently that he wants to compete with moin. but i assure u there is soooo much favorism in pakistani cricket that i dont c any chances for moin to return in the team:bummer:

Well thats made my day. :hehe:

Umair,

Where did saby compare or mention Rashid vs Moin case? Read in between the lines.

All he said, Moin Khan has been selected as a Skipper and Batsman from PCB Greens, not as a wicket-keeper. And when it comes to batting, Moin Khan has got huge striking rate than Rashid Latif, though, Moin ain't a good wicket-keeper as Rashid.

Under Moin Khan's Captaincy, Pakistan has won Coca-Cola Cup in Sharjah, March 2000(defeating South Africa in the final), Cable and Wireless ODI's Series in West Indies, April 2000(defeating West Indies in the final), Asia Cup in Bangladesh May-June 2000(defeating Sri Lanka in the final). And few more ODI series at home, one of them against England, I reckon, though, we lost the Test Series against them.

Conclusion:- Moin is a good skipper but for now, it's difficult for him to come back in the team as Rashid is doing a superb job. :)
