Pakistan cricket always had ups & downs. The team public is criticizing now is almost the same actually a little better then the one that won the Sharjah tournament and were loosing finalist in the AlFalah cup in Srilanka . It’s the same team that came agonizingly close from clinching the NatWest series in England. Yet, all along we have been experimenting left, right & center without giving some youngsters to properly settle down and at the same time giving some others extra time to settle down.
Saeed Bin Nasir called for the camp, had his name in the probables for the first two matches and now he is no where to be found.
Misbah played one test, had his name in the next and now he is no where to be found.
Junaid Zia enjoying his time being the undeserved selection in the team and he played not one or two but so far all the matches. Ironically he played the 3rd ODI at Sami’s expense and the 4th ODI at Shabir’s expense. So deserving people have to sit out to give this sifarshi a chance. To be honest I don’t think Tauqir Zia forced his selection in the team, I think Amir was just trying to be a kiss ass and selected him to play.
Salman Butt gets one chance in the last test and though he didn’t get a big scroe he showed potential, actually ODI potential. Yet, out of the blues we select Imran Nazir for the 4th ODI. I have nothing against Imran, in fact I think he is immensely talented but its just unfair that some people get so many chances and others barely get a chance. Yasir Hameed in that sense has been very lucky. He scored a century in both innings in the first test and secured his position for the tests. Then he scored a century in the first ODI, but again he was dropped in the 4th match.
Selectors have played musical chairs with the team for a while now. Its time to think whats best for Pakistan not whats going to make the general happy. We should play every match with the best 11 players available. Yes, we can experiment sometimes with a player or two but not at the expense of match winners. Players like Sami, Youhana, Shoaib Akhtar, Shoiab Malik are an asset of Pakistan cricket team. It’s time we give them the respect that’s due, not “rest” them to make way for Sifarshi’s.
