PCB to build, enhance int’l venues

** KARACHI:** This year’s farcical home Test series against India has prompted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to work on enhancing the cricket infrastructure in the southern parts of the country.

According to a top PCB official, efforts are underway to assure that more and more international cricket action is held in Sindh and Balochistan where longer days can lead to more result-oriented Test matches.

The PCB campaign includes a new international stadium in the port city of Gwadar and setting up of hotels in cities like Hyderabad.

Two of the three Tests, Pakistan played against India this season, ended in dull draws with a lot of playing time lost due to bad light. The opening two Tests were played in Lahore and Faisalabad where dead wickets and shorter days meant that no result was possible. It was only after the series came towards the south in Karachi where a result was possible as Pakistan defeated India to win the series 1-0.

“We want to have more matches in Sindh and Balochistan because unlike the Punjab, there are lesser chances of bad light problems happening too often in this part of the world,” said the PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan here on Thursday. “But the problem is that apart from Karachi, there are no suitable venues for international cricket here,” he said.

He pointed out that a city like Hyderabad has a cricket stadium but is not equipped with enough hotels to accommodate players, officials and visiting spectators.

He said the PCB has written to the top officials of the Sindh government to help in establishing proper hotels in Hyderabad and other major cities of the province.

Shaharyar stated the long-term plans also include setting up of a full-fledged stadium in Gawadar so that international matches could be staged there in the future.

The News

I say, those Lahoris should now pay for the airfare from their own pocket money and travel to Karachi via PIA to watch the game from now on. Let Sindh get on with the cricket flow. Enough providing complimentary passes to the Qaddafi stadium. Burn those barren seats and bring down those *shamianaas. Ab shadiyaan bhi Karachi mein hongee. Apni poleece, apna khaana. *

:yahoo: Karachi/Hyderabad walon, jashan manao. :yahoo:

:smokin:

Re: PCB nay aakhir-kaar apna galla tora aur paison ka sahih istimaal shuru kar diya

Gaddafi stadium has lots of extra unused chairs that can be moved to Gawadar :D

Re: PCB nay aakhir-kaar apna galla tora aur paison ka sahih istimaal shuru kar diya

I would only term this as a “Gesture” a really nice gesture on behalf of PCB, we we know how the GOVT process work, but hopefully an exception would be made when it is about cricket :k: what happens in the following years and how things unfold and they are implemented actually. lets hope and keep our fingers crossed hopefully South Asia will win the bid for WC and we will see a stadium and acutally matches played in Gawadar, well Sindh and Balouchistan.

Re: PCB nay aakhir-kaar apna galla tora aur paison ka sahih istimaal shuru kar diya

As far as the “gesture” work, I agree.

Regarding the on-going bidding process for the 2011 World Cup, if the bid is won (hopefully) by the sub-continent, it has been decided that India would host the most number of matches (22) followed by Pakistan (16), Sri Lanka (9) and Bangladesh (6) (provided the World Cup is awarded to Asia).

At least there is still a ray of hope for the likes of Hyderabad and Gawadar to be renovated into international venues surrounded with decent-sized lodging and a good atmosphere, coupled with fans from all around the world, providing the cities a major media coverage and perhaps a ‘place on the map’ (if you will).

im glad they're putting an initiative to build a venue in gwadar. an international event like cricket can help a developing city like that gain recognition (and not to mention revenue).
