LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board has named Shahid Khan Afridi as captain of the national T20 team in place of Younis Khan who has decided to retire from the format.
Younis announced his retirement from the T20 cricket after the Pakistan team won the second edition of the World Championship last month In England. After several attempts from different quarters, Younis did not show any plans to revert his decision.
Shahid Afridi who reinvented himself with heroics in the T20 World Cup had shown willingness to lead the team in the shortest format of the game.
so it seems they failed to convince Younis Khan to change his mind
I don't blame him though. everyone wants to retire with pride and honour. Just because we won T20 World Cup this year does not necessarily mean we will win the next edition too
I've always believed that Afridi may be the right person for captaincy in T20 and may be even ODIs... over the past few years, he's rarely disappointed us in his bowling and fielding and is always energetic and encouraging on the field. His poor batting form at times is only secondary in my opinion - if he clicks, it's a bonus... but there's many other aspects that speak to his qualificaiton as a cricketer and a potential team leader.
