PCB move to renovate Iqbal Stadium faces hurdles

**PCB move to renovate Iqbal Stadium faces hurdles **

By our correspondent

KARACHI: National cricket authorities are facing unexpected administrative headaches in their bid to upgrade venues for this winter’s home series against the West Indies.

A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official said that a tiff between parallel associations in Faisalabad and an engineering blunder is delaying renovation and uplifting work at the city’s Iqbal Stadium.

According to details, rival associations have been fighting for power in Faisalabad and the situation is so bad that the city’s DCO has recently suggested that the PCB should form an ad-hoc committee to run local cricket affairs.

Another major problem hurdling preparations at the Iqbal Stadium, one of the venues for the one-day series against the West Indies, is **that the generator for the facility’s floodlights has not been properly installed and is in fact blocking a thoroughfare near the stadium. **The PCB has involved Nespak engineers to find a way to remove the generator from its existing place and install it at a better location.

The PCB has launched a drive to renovate, expand and improve its stadiums in various parts of the country with an eye on the 2011 World Cup.

We know these sports ghundaas. Same issue has been daunting Pakistan football for two decades. These morons don't think of the country or sport, but their own agendas are superior to everything.

Yes you are right mate.

What hope there is when you have these jokers running the cricket affairs. There was a talk about a new state of cricket stadium to be built in Islamabad. I think they still have not been able to finalise the land agreement with the local authorities. I don’t think this stadium will be be developed unless they sort this out quickly. In contrast the Indians are planning a new state of stadium in Delhi in which the final will be played.

The facilities provided by the Indians for the ICC Champions trophy for visiting teams look so impressive i.e. lush green practice facilitiess and nets etc.

The Indian grounds are also quite impressive i.e. Mohali very nice ground. I was listening to the guy in charge of building this stadium on tv once and he stated that they will be starting work on the next phase of development on this ground which will include state of the art indoor facilities etc.

Which ground in Pakistan has got indoor facilities - apart from the so called National Cricket Academy. Multan is one of the few nicer grounds of Pakistan but would the jokers consider developing this further?

These jokers are also suppose to be holding the ICC champions trophy in 2008 - they better get their act together otherwise they will cause embarssement for the nation.

The impressive Mohali stadium:
