PCB looks towards former Test cricketers for support

**PCB looks towards former Test cricketers for support **

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) would host a gathering of several former national Test cricketers and other stakeholders on November 15 in Lahore in a bid to lift the sport out of the present crisis.

A PCB spokesman told this correspondent that the Board is preparing a long list of invitees that would include some of its harshest critics for the one-day seminar. Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan, who has been the biggest critic of Pakistani cricket administrators in recent times, would also be invited for the moot.

The move to hold the exercise came from PCB chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf.

“The idea is to have everybody associated with Pakistan cricket sit down together and discuss ways and means to lift the sport,” said the spokesman.

The idea is not a new one as a few other previous PCB chiefs also hosted similar moots to get suggestions from former Test cricketers.

Dr Ashrafís immediate predecessor Shaharyar Khan also staged a similar seminar after his appointment as the PCB chairman. Nothing concrete ever came out of such events which were seldom repeated by the PCB in the past.

However, the spokesman said that this time the PCB is planning to hold such seminars at regular intervals.

For the first episode, several Test cricketers including a few who are settled abroad would be invited. They include former Pakistan captain Asif Iqbal, who lives in England. Apart from the cricketers, the PCB would also invite representatives from the corporate sector for the seminar.

The objective of the moot would be to underline measures that are to be taken for the improvement of the game at the domestic level as well as raising the graph of Pakistanís performance internationally.

Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer is also expected to attend the workshop though it would be held on the final day of the first Test against the West Indies in Lahore starting from November 11.

Re: PCB looks towards former Test cricketers for support

This is called 'passing the buck'....seems like new Pcb chief is clutching for straws or has no idea what needs to be done and is looking for excuses....whatever the case maybe, shows weakness on part of management, lack of vision.....May God have mercy on Pak cricket....

Re: PCB looks towards former Test cricketers for support

This is another way of saying "I don't know jack about it, can you please help me out here".

Re: PCB looks towards former Test cricketers for support

Regardless of what advice or suggestions may be given nothing really will be done.

Re: PCB looks towards former Test cricketers for support

whats going on in cricket is directly an extension of whats going on with us as a nation. there is no vision,no planning and everyone is looking for shortcuts to reach to the top.

Re: PCB looks towards former Test cricketers for support

The result will also not be a new one.

Re: PCB looks towards former Test cricketers for support

I think instead of organizing such seminars and wasting money. They should revamp the ad hoc committee and form a new committee of 5-7 individuals and ask Imran to chair it.

Such committee should have powers to make decisions, and should include people like:
1. Imran Khan, Chair
2. Asif Iqbal, member
3. Intikhab Alam, Member
4. Rameez Raja, Member
5. Zakir Khan, Member
6. Team Coach (for now Woolmer), Member
7. Selection Committee Chair (Bari for now), Member

This committee should guide about team selection, talent hunt, long term planning, development of infrastructures for cricket, managing domestic cricket, guiding about PCB constitution, and conducting evaluation and hiring of PCB officials.

Re: PCB looks towards former Test cricketers for support

Good idea and suggestion but do you think the big boss Mushy will allow someone like Imran to chair it?
