The point is that while no one can compare with Bond and Lee right now, the likes of Sami are fast improving year by year, rather than in decline like Waqar. So I would much rather watch them keep developing so that soon they can compete with those guys. I've seen enough of Sami to know that he's got what it takes.
It's called building for the future and you will notice that England and South Africa are also doing the same thing. I don't want Waqar back, I'm quite happy to see these future prospects improve with experience. Right now with Shoaib and Sami we have the fastest pair of opening bowlers in the world and if you saw them bowl in tandem at Lords you'd understand why I'm not too concerned at the loss of Waqar and Wasim - might not compare to the greats but it's enough to knock over plenty of teams in the future so keep watching for some edge of the seat stuff :)
for that purpose Waqar is no good, he'll be like 37. Waqar's main arsenal used to be speed just like Shoaib, he doesn't have as many tricks in his hat as Wasim Akram.

Well Changezi bhaii.... Waqar was far more better than Shoaib...he had not only deadly speed but he had line length and accuracy also... plus some common sense,, which lacks in our greatest super star of all time>>>> i.e Shoaib Akhter<<<<<
and as far as the difference between Waqar and Wasim is concerned.. then dear changez bhai,, both were equal deadly bowlers with different approaches,.. check there strike rate of bowl/lbw and caught behind, then youll know there style of bowling........
now let me come back to the topic............
the approach PCB took, was stupid, patethic and buli$$$H...
who ever gave that advice was totally nuts....
he should have been asked in private,,, which I persume wasnt...
what they need to do is to ask both of them to coach youngsters,, they should open an academy and give charge to ehse guys, whocan then train guys ...

By no means I wanted to compare Waqar with Shoaib, there is a class difference. I do agree that Waqar had great line and length with speed thats why he was much more deadlier than Shoaib.

They were different. Wasim, even when throwing at slower speeds was dangerous, while Waqar throwing slowly was a mediocre (not as deadly).
I think this is a very bad move by PCB.Least they should have done is kept the situation as it is.This guy has done so much for country he deserves to atleast decide when he wants to call it a a day.I personally feel that Waqar as an International player is finished. He is a just a mediocre bowler now and he should retire. But then its Waqar who has to decide not PCB or anyone else.
This is utter disrespect shown by PCB to great cricketter.
Ohh God , PCB sucks and I dont know what they plan to do with the legends.I feel Waqar & Wasim can play as long as they think they can keep themselves fit.
i totally agree with LahoriMunda here. This is pure madness by PCB. Waqar has served Pakistan well, very well indeed. So its rather pathetic on PCB’s part to keep asking him to retire. PCB is just so full of ****. If they are so sincere to Waqar we’ll see what kind of treatment he will get when he does retire on his own terms. i am so freakin fed up of this idiot ruling and ruining Pakistan’s future and insulting our past.
IMO PCB has gone nuts. This farewell-cum-funeral technique won't do Pak cricket any good. If the guy thinks that he can still make a comeback, let him do so, why force him to take the way out. At least the bowling and opening departments of our team need mentors such as Saeed and Wasim/Waqar. I fear that Shoaib's presence can infect Sami (just a thought).
Asif_(K), waqar is done, in my opinion, we have better prospects... He still might be good enough as a bowler for India, but for Pakistan, hes gotta make way for others!
Spoc(K) - If you think that Umar gul, Shabir Ahmed, Md. Zahid, Naved ul Hasan, Naved Latif are better options and better talents than Waqar of Today then what can I say ? I think If all of these combine can do 1/10th of what waqar has done for pakistan then It will be an huge achievement for them. Calling them better prospects than Waqar is like calling Md. Hafeez better than Saeed Anwar.
So far I have seen only one bowler who can be said promising and that is Md. Sami. Even he is not better than Waqar.
Asif K. I don't think anyone disputes the capabilities of Waqar, past and present. The question is not how great Waqar was and what are his contributions to Pakistan cricket.
The question is to compare the Waqar of today with the other bowlers of today. Furthermore, the question is whether in the long term it makes sense to stick with Waqar or to start grooming a younger, talented bowler who can sustain with the team for another decade or so? Clearly Waqar can't.
This is always a dicey question. What is the right time and age to retire for a superstar player. Mike Jordan changed his mind three times. Imran Khan played this game too. Its nothing new. Last one year of Waqar's playing career was only a patch of what he was in, say, 1992. While we don't take anything away from his greatness as a bowler, at some point, the powers-to-be, have to start looking at what makes sense in the interest of the team and the game. They can stick with Waqar for another year, or two years and then he will bow out, or they can start afresh now and pick raw talent and polish them in these two years. If we go on the first route, at the end of two years we will have a vacant slot in the team and not sure who to fill it with. If we go the other way, we may have a decent and experienced bowler as a regular member of the team at that time.
However, Rameez has the unfortunate habit of making everything public, rather premateurly. Both Waqar's farewell and Rashid letter issue should have been better taken up initially in private. The media and the public should only be informed if they have something more substantial to say than just saying "we have asked ICC for advice...". What a blah!
We have bowlers that can rip apart strong batting lineups even in their home countries… What happened to the mighty aussie batting lineup last year in the ODIs? Who sent Tendulkar back on the first ball in India? Why are you mentioning people like Zahid and Naveed Latif? We have the Shaoib and Sami pair that will create havoc like the two Ws… Your stupid and limited argument is based on what Waqat did in the past, well, he had a glorious past, now its time to move on.
Spoc(k) - As expected your proved that your cricketing knowledge is not ZERO but in -VE. You think bowling Tendulkar out for duck (that too once in a lifetime)defines the talent of Shoaib Akhtar ? You should also count the no. of threads opened about Akhtar's performance in last couple of years. I dont want this thread to get into a pissing contest between Shoaib/Sami Vs Waqar. I have already accepted the fact that Sami is a Great prospect, nowhere close to waqar though (he never will be). So Relax and open a new thread for your ignorant rants.
Faisal - thanks for your post. I agree, Waqar may not be as good as he was in the 90s is that enough reason to force him to take a retirement ? Okay I ask you a question, Do you think that Except Sami, any other Pakistani bowler like the Naveds, Zahids and Shabirs are better than Waqar of Today ? Grooming is one thing and insulting a legend is another. If the selectors think that Waqar is not doing well then they should not select him in the team, They dont need to humiliate him publicly or in private by imposing the retirement on him.
Asif, I know that delivery that got tendulkar out for a duck still hurts you but my point was that Shoaib and Sami can rip apart any batting line up, be it Indians or Australians… Btw, didnt you consider Tendulkar as your god? Those who get these Gods out for humiliating ducks, what should they be titled as? Mega-Gods? Why did you ignore what he did in Australia? This shows Shaoibs potential and talent. As for all these threads, I know you are jealous of Shaoib, but all he needs is a little consistency, and then your yateems will be helpless against the inswinging yorkers that are gonna come their way.
You proved nothing, and everyone here thinks Waqar should now give way to the young bowlers…
Spock...why do you have bring the Indian Cricket team and yateems in it. Stick to the topic, evryone has their own point of view and you should learn to respect others point. If Asif_k thinks PCB didn't do the right thing then its ok, its not the end of the world buddy.
Anyway....I think its a good time for Waqar to retire, and PCB did the right thing by approaching Waqar with a final good-bye offer. But I do agree with Saby that PCB should have approached him privetly first.
and why i am not surprised after reading this mgs…Xtreme..Faisal…Fraudz…u all are eggs of same bucket or i should say aik he thalee keh cathay batay hain…(just kidding)
The best thing we can do about Waqar is just ignore him…just like we have ignored Ijaz…Afridi(hopefully)
You proved nothing, and everyone here thinks Waqar should now give way to the young bowlers...
now rant all you want...

I dont want to get into fight between you and Asif and I respect your opinion that Waqar's days are over as a bowler. But looking at his records and the service he has done for country he atleast deserves to decide himself when he wants to call it a day.Its humiliating for him that PCB is basically forcing him to retire.
Dont just support PCB on this issue just because an Indian Asif didnt like PCB's stands.Dont let your hatred for him hijack your commonsense.
