PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Nov 12: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday ignored legendary Javed Miandad while announcing the names of 27 renowned cricketers who have been invited for the national cricket workshop to be held on Friday.

The list is led by all-rounder Imran Khan and was distributed to the media during a press conference of the PCB chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf on Sunday.

Asked why Miandad’s name had been omitted from the list, the chairman expessed his surprise stating that he had personally invited the former captain and his name might not have been included due to what he said `typing error.’

The chairman said though all-rounder Wasim Akram had also been invited, he might not be available due to other assignments.
He said PCB Director Cricket Operations Salim Altaf and Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer would give the presentations to all participants of the workshop.

Dr Ashraf said the first part of the workshop would be focused on the World Cup to be held in West Indies in March next year, while in the second session suggestions to improve domestic structure would be considered.

He said though there was little time left in World Cup, suggestions for the preparations at this moment could help Pakistan prepare in a better way.

Invitees: Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Mushtaq Mohammad, Majid Khan, Zaheer Abbas, Asif Iqbal, Wasim Bari, Intikhab Alam, Hasib Ahsan, Iqbal Qasim, Mohammad Ilyas, Waqar Younis, Sadiq Mohammad, Moin Khan, Mudassar Nazar, Sikandar Bakht, Rashid Latif, Aaqib Javed, Ramiz Raja, Eteshamuddin, Agha Zahid, Shafiq Ahmad, Col. (retd.)Naushad Ali, Salahudin Ahmad, Haroon Rashid, Abdul Raquib, Pervez Sajjad.

What a good excuse for Javed Miandad not being invited ‘typing error’.

Other name not in the list is Aamir Sohail. I personally think both Javded & Amir Sohail should have been invited as they seem to have plenty to say and this would have provided them with a good opprtunity to put across their opinions and ideas regardless if they are considered or not.

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

I think Aamir and Saeed Anwar should have been included in the list, since PAK big problem is openers and These both could have offered some good advise. Though Aamir is a stance critique, so PCB might have feared some unruley incidence during the conference, which might have took him off the list.

I do beleive Javed was a good batsman and player, but search internet and find any single article where Javed criticize or supported any thing of PAK cricket based on some logic or technicalities. Rather since he is fired of coaching, he thinks all the problems in the world including terrorism are caused by Woolmer, so with such mind set I don't expect him to be of any use in this conference.

In reality PCB should have only invited
Imran Khan, Mushtaq Mohammad, Majid Khan, Asif Iqbal, Intikhab Alam, Hasib Ahsan, Mudassar Nazar, Rashid Latif, Aaqib Javed (they have some experience at different levels with players grooming and management).

Eteshamuddin, Agha Zahid, Shafiq Ahmad, Col. (retd.)Naushad Ali, Salahudin Ahmad, Haroon Rashid, Abdul Raquib, Pervez Sajjad (These for some insight into domestic cricket).

Others like Bari, Waqar, Zaheer they are/were with team, so I don't think if they could bring something new. I eliminated many players who played under Imran, because they will agree with whatever Imran recommend, so he could be a spoke person for all who played between 1980s and 2000.

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

Both Javed Minadad and Aamir sohail must be included no matter how much criticize they do.
Aamir sohail was a good opener while Javed was a captain as well as a very good batsman. Dosn't PCB need their assistance in certain areas of their expertise?
I mean who used to play better in under pressure situaitons than Javed. Besides he was so calm on the wicket and always helped other players in the field.

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

I totally agree with you Breeze about Javed helping his younger partners while batting to gether. I also seen him hitting few good shots against a bowler and then allowing his partner to complete a 50 or 100. These were all good stuffs about Javed. Excellent runner between the wicket, but he seems like criticizing for the sake of criticism.

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

JM was a legendary cricketer and has saved the day for Pakistan on countless occasions. But I beg to differ with my colleagues in this thread. Being a technically perfect batsman doesnt mean that he is a THINK TANK as well. I find nothing wrong with it, Javed was and will always remain a legendary figure in Pak cricket. But as far as stretegic planning and thinking is concerned, i dont think that is JM's cup of tea. Leave it to others who can do it. I was also (similar criteria) wondering why Mudassir's name is in that list ?

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

First of all, its a brilliant initiative. Hats off. Secondly, despite his differences I think Javed Miandad will be there because he knows cricket. For his sake, I hope he uses constructive criticism for once rather than taking his grudge out against woolmer. Otherwise it will be a sorry sight Miandad having a go at coach for irrlevant reasons in front of everyone. Aamir Sohail is rightly not invited. He has not offered any insight whatsoever in his commentry stints as well as so called expert opinions on Geo.

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

If you have a look at list closely you will see that it comprises of recent coaches as well as captains. Mudassar is in charge of cricket academy, has coached Pakistan team and has a coaching certificate. He will have something to say.

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

Are you sure Mudasar Nazar is a qualified coach and has a coaching certificate? As far as I was aware he didn't have any coaching qualifications.

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

^ Well from what I remember he earned coaching level 1 certificate in England, Old trafford where he lives. I am sure any other guppie can correct me or verify me.

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

Not arguing that Miandad should be and Amir can be invited, but “plenty to say” is not always “plenty of sense” which has been the case for both Miandad and Sohail in recent times. Plenty to say sometimes just equates to a "big mouth"or like in urdu “khali handya”
:clown:

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

Reading US's post I think I have seconded his opinion pretty close to the essence ....

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

my mistake. But still serving in cricket academy for two stints as well as pak team coach will benefit in the seminar

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

And other invitees are in league with Socrates, Plato and Plutarch? :D

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

Yes and he should also benefit as it may give him some new ideas to run the academy

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

Miandad and Amer talk a lot anyway and have nothing new to share. Let them keep coaching on GEO.

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

Last night happened to watch bolaein kiya baat hai on Geo Super channel. ( Fakhar hosts that show. Rather hijacks that show. Anyway…) On the program Dr Naseem Ashraf called in to clear a few points

That the doping results were not leaked to the media. He also mentioned this workshop and he did regret that some of the players have declined to come to that workshop. Reasons being… jee hum itnee badhe majme hur hujoom mein kiya karein gyee… hum to one to one meeting karma chante hai with you (Dr Narim Ashraf)

Could Minadad be one of those?

Plus my two cents. I am in Pakistan and have had for the first time got a chance to listen to Miadad regularly on HUM TV. First every night for the Champions trophy and now for the test series. I am sorry to say he is a huge disappointment as an expert.

And after all those hours of listening to him I have come to the conclusion that it is best the he used to let the bat do all the talking.

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

^ very true.

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

^ :k:…
we used to joke in the good old days of Mianjee and khanjee… mianjee was no way a media guy…he would struggle with his “phit-ness” all the time…

Re: PCB ignores Miandad for seminar

Miandad and Amer should not be used in the same sentence. Miandad is a legend while Amer was a guy who just filled the opening slot for few years. Miandad may not be the best talker, but he was an expert on what he did. He may not be able to articulate how he did it, but he is the one who taught us to win. Before that sharjah six, we never won any major tournament. After that we won many tournaments, and Miandad being the main force in most of them. His stature and statistics demand respect, whether you give or not, is upto you.
