One thing I don't get about Waqar, when the senior players perform badly, he says they are too old and can't handle too much cricket. When the young players perform badly he says they are too young and don't have much experience, then what kind of player does he want.
Young or old, you are suppose to be responsible, and play good cricket, look at Sehwag, Kaif, Yuvraj, how long have they been around, but look at how good cricket they are playing.

Waisay i havent noticed he said anything like that about senior pleyrs ke they perofmred badly??? Someone please share the link with me!
though he said ke seior players wanted rest as they cannot play continuous cricket for too long but not about their performance!!
there were only rumors that he blames senior players for defeats !
Not any concrete statement !!
Infact he recently defended seniors like saeed wasim when asked about them playing in egngland, he said "playing exhibition matches is one thing and they think they are not able to take rigors of five day cricket then its upto them"!!

HIS RESIGNATION HAS BEEN REJECTED BY PERVEZ MUSHARRAF...... so he has to continue as the Chairman of PCB.

Go Musharraf :k:

This is the first of many heads to roll. Next should be the captain itself. If he has any deceny left in him he should resign forthwith, instead of asking his players to forget what happened during the second test.

PCB Chairman to continue after resignation not accepted
Pakistan Cricket Board - 15 October 2002

President General Pervez Musharraf has not accepted the resignation of Lt Gen Tauqir Zia and has asked him to continue as Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Lt Gen Tauqir had tendered his resignation immediately after Pakistan lost the second cricket Test against Australia at Sharjah on Saturday.

The President, who returned Tuesday morning from Turkey after attending the ECO meeting, held discussions with the PCB Chairman at the Army House, Rawalpindi, and expressed complete confidence in Lt Gen Tauqir Zia. General Musharraf told Lt Gen Tauqir Zia that he was the right man to guide Pakistan cricket through the current crisis.

The President, in the meeting, appreciated that the present team comprised many youngsters who were talented but required proper motivation and guidance to perform at their peak.

General Pervez Musharraf, though disappointed with Pakistan team’s performance in the second Test against Australia at Sharjah, hoped that it would recover from this shock defeat and would show its true mettle in the third Test.

He wished Lt Gen Tauqir Zia and the Pakistan team well for the future series against Zimbabwe and South Africa, and the World Cup next year.

Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, in a statement, said he was thankful to President General Musharraf for expressing confidence and trust in his abilities. “Now since the President has told me to continue, I can’t refuse him. He has shown the confidence and faith in me and I would continue to work with full enthusiasm and vigour as I have been doing in the past.”

The PCB Chairman defended his decision to tender his resignation, saying: “It was not a rash decision but a well-thought one. If the Pakistan team plunged to its worst defeat, then I think someone has to take the responsibility and, I being the chairman of the PCB, had to stand up and accept the blame.”

Lt Gen Tauqir Zia said he would now sit down and analyze the problem areas and act accordingly. “That might also lead to the ouster of some people, if required. I would continue to support the youngsters because I am a big fan of their abilities. But at the same time, I would like to see the senior boys to show self-discipline and stand up to realize their responsibilities and pay back to the country.”

The PCB Chairman thanked all his well-wishers who urged him to continue. “I received very encouraging and morale-boosting response from the cricket circle in Pakistan. Internationally, ICC President Malcolm Gray, Indian cricket board chief Jaghmohan Dalimya, next ICC President Ehsan Mani, CBFS President Abdulrehman Bukhatir, chief executive Zahid Noorani and the ACC President either called or wrote to me individually and urged me to carry on as the head of the office.”

I think Its good for Pakistani cricket right now!
Tauqir Zia has done many good things for the development of cricket in the country ....

It would have been better if ACB Chairman Bob would have called... his team is the one responsible for such a sound thrashing of Pakistani team.

Yeah baby! :hehe:

Good news (i was expecting this to happen)---atleast Gen Zia showed the courage to take the blame..which is very rare in Pakistan!

Now it's Waqar Turn to show some Gheraat/sharaam ... and step down..

I doubt that he will step down as a captain-- becoz he know as a player/ind performer-- he has no chance to be in the team!!

People say bad about Wasim Akram--but the reality is Wasim is the most eligible player to be the captain!

Jerablade! U r 110% right. That is the exact reason why Waqar wont step down, he knows deep down dat he doesnt deserve a place in the side nemore. UR also correct dat Wasim shud b captain till the WC but hes a winner and unfortunately us pakistanis dont like winners. Under Wasim we wer a threat 2 the world now under Waqar wer a threat 2 Bangladesh! Il repeat i admit our battin is poor but if u look at Waqars record over the last 4 yrs den his record is worse dan any batsman. He has only got 2 5 wicket hauls in the last 5 yrs and guess who they wer against ... BANGLADESH!!!

Asif bhai, actually he did get another 5 wicket haul and that was against South Africa in Morroco but then he also gave away 65 runs in that inning, so it preety much evens it all out.
His ability to produce good bowling on dead bowling wickets has decreased. While other bowlers like Shoaib and Wasim are still bowling well in these type of pitches.
Lets see how he bowls in South Africa if he lasts that long in the team.
We gave all bowlers like Wasim and Akhtar chances when they were bowling miserably.
I do think his captaincy should be taken away if PCB can find a decent replacement but I would still keep him in the team for the world cup.
He was bowling brilliantly in the last 2 tours to Australia, so South African pitch might assist his bowling.

Umair in that particular match his analysis were 10-0-38-5 !! You can check ! But yeh his performance is somewhat disappointning !!! But as they say form is temorary class is permanent !

Sorry yaar, I think it was in the next match he gave away 60 runs. But once in a while you can catch gimpse of old Waqar. His record in Sharjah has been super for the past couple years, lets see if he can bring that back in next test.

Pakistan Cricket’s Zia, Mujahid to stay on after President Plea
Richard Sydenham - Bloomberg - 15 October 2002
Pakistan Cricket Board officials General Tauqir Zia and Chishty Mujahid will remain in their roles after Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf refused to accept their resignations.
The pair quit on Sunday, a day after Pakistan lost a Test match to Australia that included the team’s two lowest-ever totals. The International Cricket Council called on General Zia to remain in his role as chairman. The nation’s president agreed.
“General Zia will be staying in his post because the President felt he was the best man to lead Pakistan cricket through a difficult time,” said Mujahid, who was hired by Zia three months ago as PCB director.
Mujahid said he decided to quit before hearing Zia had made the same decision. Someone had to take responsibility for the loss in Sharjah, he said. The Australians won the Test by an innings and 198 runs in two days to clinch the three-match series. They bowled Pakistan out for 59 and 53.
“I’m pleased General is staying on because he has done a tremendous amount of work for the development of cricket in Pakistan,” said Mujahid, referring to the establishment of academies throughout the country. “The loss was not his fault.”
The third Test begins Saturday, again at the neutral venue of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. Australia refused to tour Pakistan for security reasons. Pakistan won’t play home matches at neutral venues again, Mujahid said.

Well im on about his test record where hes only got 2 5 wicket hauls in the last 5 yrs and they wer against Bangladesh. As 4 1dayers hes 2 expensive , he gets the opposition off to a flier and lets not forget he lost us the WC in 96. Now hes truly past it do u want him to do the same again?

Actually to be honest, if you review the past 2-3 years, can you tell how many bowlers have taken five wickets haul in test cricket? I tell you the reason, MAsha'allah all of our bowlers chip in with 2-3 wickets in everyi.e. Wasim, Waqar , Saqlain, Shoaib , Mushtaq etc..... Pakistan has never relied on anyone bowler to do the job alone.... And waqar has many 4-wickets haul iun last 2 years, against england, against sri lanka againt westindeis etc....
Hope you got my point!
