Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt was asked to retire by the National Assembly Standing Committee on Sports chairman Jamshed Khan Dasti during a hearing on cricket affairs at the Parliament House on Thursday in Islamabad. In an interesting exchange of words between Ijaz and Dasti, the former was reminded that even for government servants the retirement age was 60 years.
“Ijaz sahib even government employees retire at 60. How old are you,” Dasti asked Ijaz. “I am 70,” replied Ijaz. It is pertinent to mention here that Ijaz is 76 years old and not 70 as claimed by him. “I think enough is enough. You have done 10-years overtime. You should retire now,” Dasti responded to the PCB chief’s remarks who retorted: “Yes but even at this age the national team won the Twenty20 World Cup recently under my chairmanship.”
I agree he is just too old (76) and should be replaced with someone more competent and knowledgeable about the game
Air Marshall Nur Khan was THE best PCB head we ever had (add to that his huge successes as PHF president from 1976-1984 when Pakistan hockey team was the best in the world)
Over the past 15 years or so I w'd say Lt. Gen. Tauqir Zia was the best despite his military connections
More importantly, his successor should be elected, which brings us to the first class cricket structure in Pakistan. Usually heads of cricketing bodies are elected by a board of governors composed of representatives of member first class cricketing bodies.
Ever since I have started following cricket Imran khan has suggested an over haul of cricketing bodies on a regional basis. These regional bodies would nominate representatives to a governing board that would elect a PCB chairman.
In the current situation, if Butt leaves, the president of Pakistan will just nominate another chairman, and another adhoc committee.
On the contrary, I think Mr. Ijaz should continue as the chairman. Please don't forget this is just his start and he has his whole career ahead of him. Hopefully things will change with experience.

What do u mean? Do you realise that he is 76, that is just too old for someone to be holding such an important position as PCB chairman
I really really hate Butt saheb not because of the current team's failure but the way he handled Geoff Lawson unprofessionaly and then his failure to provide the"presidential" security to the Sri Lankan team. It is a fact no such security was in place and instead of admitting his mistake for security lapse, he selfishly used the lives of policemen to defend the security setup. He is really a ghatiya dheet insaan..
Make Aaqib Javed the head coach. He is innovative, young, experienced coach. I believe it was under his coaching stint , the Jr team won two world cups.
I don't mind seeing Wasim Akram as a head coach either now that will be awesome!
and Imran khan the PCB chairman! He belongs to cricket not politics. :D
Even Tauqir Zia (I thought he handled the Shoaib bowling action controversy post 1999 WC rather well......some w'd say even spoiled SA by overprotecting him on occasions) will do as PCB chairman. He was firm, assertive and knew what he was talking about.
