a small piece of advice friend. when erasing large white, or similar colored backgrounds try using the MAGIC ERASER tool. It makes life much more easier.

You can later perfect erasing techniques through various other means, later.

IMHO the magic select wand is better than the magic eraser for this purpose. Reason being you can actually see the area that has been selected by the wand before you can proceed to delete it.
