Patterson terms remarks of Indian Army Chief as 'silly'

ISLAMABAD: US Ambassador to Pakistan Anne Patterson termed the recent remarks of Indian Army Chief General Kapoor as ‘silly’ and said that India and Pakistan should address their issues bilaterally to ensure progress in both countries.

In an exclusive interview with DawnNews on Thursday night, the US envoy said that there was enormous potential for economic progress if India and Pakistan got together.

The countries have complementary markets and commercial implications of the good relations between them are enormous, she said.

Anne Patterson said that if the Pakistan government has any evidence of Indian involvement in Balochistan, her country will be keen to play a role in addressing the situation.

She felt the immediate need for reestarting composite dialogue between India and Pakistan and resumption of confidence building measure.

Appreciating the efforts of Pakistan army in combating the terrorists in Swat and South Waziristan the US envoy said, Pakistan army has pursued this war very courageously and they have rendered big sacrifices in it.

She expressed confidence in Pakistan government for spending KLB’s assistance money for development of infrastructure in FATA and South Waziristan.

She also lauded Benazir Income Support Programme saying this programme is being appreciated by the comity of nations adding there would be no harm if the money of US assistance reaches the deserving people through this programme.

To a question the American envoy said that withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan would be condition- based.

“We have to train and equip the Afghan security forces to replace the US and Nato troops before leaving the country”, the Ambassador said.

Commenting on the reports of presence of US security officials in Gwadar the envoy said, they visited the area to advance the visit of aid directors to assess the projects being financed through KLB.

She said there was no American in Pakistan without visa or proper documentation adding some people were floating such speculations in the media to undermine the relationship of two countries.

“We do not have Blackwaters in Pakistan and all information in this regard in foreign and local media was nonsense,” she said.

She said "IF Pakistan had ANY evidence of Indian involvement in Balochistan...."....sounds like she's challenging Pakistan to put up or shut up.

She also said "We do not have Blackwaters in Pakistan and all information in this regard in foreign and local media was nonsense".......now what's Zaid Hamid and similar liars going to do?

Before forming any conclusion, let us see what proof Pakistan produces on the issue of Balochistan and proclaimed “Indian support to baloch insurgency”. Then only it would be better to discuss it. And can anybody here clear me on what issue she said my general’s remarks were “silly”?

Well there are ample proves that are given to the Indian government. Everytime the head of states of India and Pakistan meet Pakistan hands over the proves so its up the the Indian government now to take measures to stop getting involved in Pakistan.
Its not in the interest of India that Pakistan is destabilized but the dumb indians will never learn and keep on blaming Pakistan and doing propaganda gainst Pakistan they do not realise that when the "**** hits the fan" it will not spare india.

India was not only provided with concrete proof of it's involvement in Balochistan but also in South Waziristan on November 3, 2009 ----- for further information regarding the evidence please refer to MM Singh government.

Well she [Ambassador Patterson] seems to be way off course from recent interview of defense Secretary Robert Gates who categorically admitted/acknowledged Blackwater/Xe presence in Pakistan -----

If there is any credible evidence of *“alleged involvement of India in balochistan and south Waziristan then why Pakistani government didn’t go public?
* When Indian submitted first series of dossiers, it was well available on net. It is still there, so I would request you to provide me with just one link.
Recently major general Athar Abbas said that they have captured huge cache of Indian arms, ammunition, medical equipments and medicines, and proof has been sent to foreign office to present it at appropriate forum and matter would be taken up with Indian authorities through diplomatic channel in due course,
**Don’t you think that dossier should be released also to the public like Indians did post 26/11?
**If India is involved in any such thing it is really waste of money of the tax payer, not only the destabilization of Pakistan is not going to render any thing good to India but also that money can be used for the welfare of Indian citizen

NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday told Parliament that Pakistan did not give any dossier to India on Balochistan when he met his Pakistani counterpart Yousaf Raza Gilani in Egypt July 16.

No such dossier was given, Manmohan Singh said while intervening in a debate in Lok Sabha on the July 16 India-Pakistan joint statement at Sharm-el-Sheikh that delinked Islamabad’s action on terror from the composite dialogue process.

The contentious statement included a reference to threats to Balochistan, a province in Pakistan, for the first time in a bilateral document between the two countries.

Manmohan Singh was responding to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yashwant Sinha’s contention that some Pakistani leaders have seized upon the reference to Balochistan.

Sinha alluded to reports in Pakistan that Gilani gave Manmohan Singh a dossier on India’s alleged role in fomenting insurgency in Pakistan’s southwest province.

No, we didn’t. Actually, we flagged the issue on Balochistan. We asked for a positive attitude and asked for non-interference inside Balochistan. I don’t wish to comment more on this issue as we are handling it through our diplomatic channels. But I was shocked at the reaction that came from India after the release of the joint statement from Sharm el-Sheikh
