i was wondering about this. Here’s my query - how have patriarchal societies undermined the genuine principles of Islam and how have patriarchal customs stood in the way of Muslim women fulfilling their religious obligations?
yes Changez_like they are.. they have equal opportunities and they are not blocked from achieving their goals.. what they achieve and accomplish is a reflection of their efforts and inclinations.

Galaxy, i have heard heaps about that book but i am afraid i have not read it yet. Actually another good one might be, "Hoops of fire" - 50 years of writing by Pakistani women, assortment of their stories, since independence.
Sorry, guys, but this isn't about what rights women do or do not possess in secular countries. i am more interested about patriarchal societies (majority of current Muslim countries are patriarchal) and the effects of that upon (Muslim) women fulfilling their religious obligations.
