Junoon’s “original” wasn’t exactly original itself, was it? The poetry is by Bulleh Shah, Ali Azmat did not freakin’ write the song! And Rabbi Shergill did not sing the song in the same tune; it is completely different and is quite breathtaking.
omg i almost missed this example…pride and prejudice lolz now thats a horrible example. frankly bollywood SHOULD NOT have bothered to make a movie where a gora guy falls for gori girl into gora rich guy falls for desi middle class girl…the most horrible and nonsense movie i have ever seen period.
Bride and Prejudice SUCKED!! I tried sitting thru it cuz bunch of us friends were watching it, but the scene that got to me was when Aish goes shopping in the bazar with her sisters, they break out dancing and singing in English. That was it.
Rabbi Shergill has a different style. Its unique like no other singer and thats why he has been able to stand out. He does not sing like or try to be like Junoon. If he did he would sound just like them wouldn't he? Thats the problem with most of us desis.. we are so hostile towards change.
As for the lyrics, he is using old school poetry just like Junoon do. Nothing wrong with it. Just because Junoon stole those lyrics first doesnt mean only theyre entitled to do it. Make no mistake about it i like Junoon too. But i dont see why they should be compared. They are both unique in their own ways.
And just for the record, i think Rabbi Shergill is a great artist.
Nobody is telling you to not express your personal opinions about him. It’s the “calling him a thief” bit that really got on my nerves. Relax and learn to appreciate good work, even if it’s by Indian artists :k: .
when at first i heard it from some indian guy ,,,i had the same feeling of piracy,,,
but actually,,,,
there was no copyright for the poetry ,,,therefore ,,every body is invited to sing that kalam in their own styles......
the only music i listen to is Hindi by the way…it’s not that i have a personal bias towards indian artists…it just seemed like a rip off to me the first time i heard it and i apologize for the mistake…
