Passover - Jewish faith

As part of inter-faith learning, can some one (hopefully a christian member) take a few minutes of their valuable time to inform Gupshup members about the historical significance of Passover and how does it relate to the date of crucifiction of Jesus Christ (Peace be upon him)?

Also, please say a few words on how jewish calendar works.

Thanks.

Easter falls on the dates that the Jews celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread which starts with the Pesach or “Passover”. This religious festival was initiated when God led them out of Egypt. The story can be read in Exodus chapters 1 to 13 with the Passover initiated in chapter 12. I quote freely how and why God instituted it: * This is a day you are to commemorate as a festival to the Lord. For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast. On the first day hold a sacred assembly and another one on the seventh day. Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened bread, because it was on this very day that I (God) brought you out of Egypt. *

In Lev.23v5 the date and time is fixed as twilight on the 14'th day of the first month of the Jewish calendar.

Jesus and his 12 disciples went to Jerusalem to celebrate this feast, as they were all Jews. During the supper Jesus instituted the Christian sacrament called the Lord’s Supper or Holy Communion (not the same as the Mass done by Catholics) as a remembrance to Jesus’ crucifixion and return one-day.

The Jewish calendar starts from their exodus out of Egypt and the first month is "Abib". The Jewish calendar has 12 months of 28 days each. Every now and then the last month "Adar" is repeated to bring the calendar back to normal.

It would be interesting to hear from a Jew/ess about the Passover and Feast thereafter - that is their way of celebrating it.

I got this from a website. For those who are interested.

Was raised in catholic tradition.

And my child also as I promised.

When in learning majority of catholic kids attend a sedar supper.

is this the same event as described in these Quranic verses....

Quran 20:77-82
And verily We inspired Moses, saying: Take away My slaves by night and strike for them a dry path in the sea, fearing not to be overtaken, neither being afraid (of the sea).
Then Pharaoh followed with his hosts and there covered them that which did cover them of the sea.
And Pharaoh led his folk astray, he did not guide them.
O Children of Israel! We delivered you from your enemy, and We made a covenant with you on the holy mountain's side, and sent down on you the manna and the quails,
(Saying): Eat of the good things wherewith We have provided you, and transgress not in respect thereof lest My wrath come upon you; and he on whom My wrath cometh, he is lost indeed.
And lo! verily I am Forgiving toward him who repenteth and believeth and doeth good, and afterward walketh aright.
