Pashtuns vs Genghis khan's Mongols

Re: Pashtuns vs Genghis khan’s Mongols

Hello,

The above text has been doctored - it is not how it is written in the text. Here - every time the word Pashtun is used - it is a replacement of the word Afghan in the text. Whilst it is correct to say that the word Afghan and Pashtun are synonymous historically speaking - but in modern day times the term Afghan is used to refer to the inhabitants of territory of the state called Afghanistan; it is not exclusive to Pashtuns.

What does this mean ?

It means that when the text says Mongols were defeated by Afghans in Parwan - it does not automatically mean that the Mongols were defeated by the Pashtuns. It means that that locals of Parwan alongside the remnants of the Khwazmshah army defeated the Mongols.

Are the locals of Parwan Pashtun ?

No they are not. ( And at the time of the Mongol invasion - Pashtu speakers were not really in modern day Afg in any significant numbers - they had yet to migrate from the Sulaiman Mountain areas )

Parwan is the centre of Tajik of Afghanistan…it is a province which included the Panjshir valley..and Kapisa province of today. This is the place where the British were first defeated also…repeatedly…and it is the place where the USSR had most of its losses… to the local commander Ahmad Shah Massoud…and where the Pakistani backed Taliban movement also suffered constant setbacks.

From Mongols down to the filthy fitnah and deception hiding behind the mask of Islam - named Taliban - Parwan and its people have been at the forefront of resisting.

So, this constant talk of Pashtuns claiming all the glories of that land - just because some colonials decided to name it Afghanistan - is very misleading and cheap in the extreme.

Re: Pashtuns vs Genghis khan's Mongols

so where did the pashtuns come from? no history of pashtuns?

as far as most of the history is concerned punjab, kpk and parts of eastern afghanistan have remained part of the same civilizations. the rulers have almost always been from central asia even before the muslims.

Re: Pashtuns vs Genghis khan's Mongols

They have never been part of indus valley civilization , gandahara etc. Like I said they are not original inhabitants of KPK. Original inhabitants of KPK were hindus of same origin as Punjabis.

As for as their origin is concerned , they are derived from ancient eastern iranian people like Scythians and bactrians.

Re: Pashtuns vs Genghis khan’s Mongols

A few months back I did a thread here regarding Mahabharata, the people living in Punjab (maybe ruling Punjab were called Bahlika’s probably from Balkh). http://www.paklinks.com/gs/indo-pak-history/576722-western-tribes-of-mahabharata.html

The biggest tribes of Punjab like Jatts (are scythians), Gujjars and Rajputs all had Central Asian origin at some time but they are settled in the area for around 1500-2000 years. I feel the original inhabitants of Indus valley were Dravidians.

Re: Pashtuns vs Genghis khan’s Mongols

All the indo-aryans from stretching from punjab to bengal once migrated from central asia if history of aryan invasion is to be believed. I believe jats have indo-aryan/hindu roots rather than indo-iranian (scythians were eastern iranian people). If jats are scythians then why they are not considered indo-iranians?

Re: Pashtuns vs Genghis khan's Mongols

Jalal al-Din suggested a pre-emptive strike on the Mongols prior to their invasion. Alas, he words on deaf ears. Seems like a pretty great general though...gave the mongols a lot of trouble

Dan Carlin's hardcore history just covered this. Google ' wrath of the khans'

Indo-Scythians - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think Jats are not called Indo Iranians as they are living across the Indus for a lot longer, and speak Indic languages. In the rural areas of Punjab even the kakkay zais speak Punjabi now. I do not see Punjabi as a race, anyone living in Punjab is a Punjabi. Multiculturalism being propagated in the world these days has been practiced in Punjab and Sindh through out history.

This is the crux (regarding Jats) that I gathered from Ahmed Dani’s book on Pakistan’s history:
