JUst want to ask, the sikh people residing in NWFP and Afghanistan, are they pashtuns converted to sikhism or are they sikhs who later settled in these areas?

There is no such thing as Sikh Pashtuns. Around 1830’s many Sikhs migrated from Punjab and settled in Pashtun areas. Their descendants forgot their language and culture and adopted the culture of Pashtuns. These people are now so-called Pashtoon Sikhs (or Hindu Pashtoons).

Pashtuns were never Budhists or Hindus. Their religion was “Pashto” before Islam.
