Pashtun Sikhs?

JUst want to ask, the sikh people residing in NWFP and Afghanistan, are they pashtuns converted to sikhism or are they sikhs who later settled in these areas?

Re: Pashtun Sikhs?

I think they settled in those areas for mainly buisness purposes.

Re: Pashtun Sikhs?

^ And then they all moved to Southall...

Re: Pashtun Sikhs?

Re: Pashtun Sikhs?

friend of mine was selling his car here in toronto...and a pashtun sikh bought the car...

apparently they are native pashtuns...speak the local languages...have the same features etc, cuz their ancestory is the same...but practice sikhism cuz their ancestors had converted way back whenever...

Re: Pashtun Sikhs?

During the Sikh rule of punjab, many muslims converted to Sikhism.

Re: Pashtun Sikhs?

i met a sikh from trinidad, a black dude raised by 2nd generation sikh indians. It was cool to see a black dude speaking punjabi and sporting a turban with dreads. so if that can be the case i have no doubt there are sikh of other ethnicities around too

Re: Pashtun Sikhs?

I've seen goray sikhs but never seen a black sikh.

Re: Pashtun Sikhs?

they have their one of the most sacred gurdwara in Taxila so its not surprising that many sikhs must be living in that vicinity for generations now and hence are pashtun sikhs.

Re: Pashtun Sikhs?

Imaginge being pashtun sikh. Not only are you the butt of all sardarji jokes but also all the pathan jokes.

that was my one and only experience of meeting a black sikh. we had exchanged numbers since he was in chicago for sometime, I was going to call him, but then i just carried on living. (guess what movie that last line is nicked from)

Yes Pashtun Sikhs do exist, some have always been Pashtun others are of Punjabi descent.

Just as some Punjabis converted from Hinduism to Islam and Sikhism...

...The Pashtun Buddhists/Hindus/Pagans also converted to Islam and Sikhism centuries ago.

Like Punjabis and Arabs, Pashtuns haven't always been Muslim.

Religions such as Hinduism weren't just limited to Punjab or South-Asia, Hinduism actually came from that direction (Central Asia).

Bull Feces!

To Pashtuns Islam is more dear than their lives, a Pashtun Muslim would never forsake his religion to appease anyone.

A Pashtun bows his head before no one except Allah.

The Sikhs did persecute Muslims during the rule of Ranjit Singh and some Pashtuns did move from Peshawar to the rural areas but none would leave Islam.

I had no idea but i googled it.

Is it from Forgetting sarah Marshall?

the pashto speaking sikhs in NWFP are decendents of those sikhs who settled nearly 200 years ago when ranjeet singh captured NWFP. You can say their root is from punjab.

Re: Pashtun Sikhs?

There is no such thing as Sikh Pashtuns. Around 1830's many Sikhs migrated from Punjab and settled in Pashtun areas. Their descendants forgot their language and culture and adopted the culture of Pashtuns. These people are now so-called Pashtoon Sikhs (or Hindu Pashtoons).

Pashtuns were never Budhists or Hindus. Their religion was "Pashto" before Islam.

Re: Pashtun Sikhs?
