IMO someone slightly different would be ideal; you'd get the chance to try new things and be exposed to different points of views.
Nothing too different though, as people usually must have similar personalities and interests to get along.

I have yet to meet another person who is identical to me in everyway (personality, life views, interests etc.). And I have yet to meet a couple who are identical in every way. Even with people who have VERY similar personalities/interests/views etc.....there's always little differences here and there. Besides, marriage brings on a whole new set of experiences and many opportunities for a couple to grow together. I would think that itself would keep the couple on their toes as they begin a completely new phase of life together.
