^ This! My French is pretty bad, but I at least made an effort and didn’t just assume that everyone spoke in English. With my toothi-poothi French, I managed to order food, ask for directions, buy tickets. I actually didn’t even fall back on the: parlez-vous Anglais? but the Parisienes are quite snooty and do look down on foreigners - I thought I deserved part marks for at least trying
