Hey, remember the Rondo? The tall Kia hatchback never really caught on here in the United States, but in Europe - where all sorts of funky five-doors flourish - the Rondo (sorry, Carens) has enjoyed respectable success. At least, enough that Kia has completely redesigned its people-carrier for 2013, bringing it more in line with the stylish new design direction of the brand’s entire lineup.
Kia says that the Carens rides on an all-new platform that features a cab-forward design and a longer wheelbase to accommodate both five- and seven-passenger seating configurations. Powertrain details haven’t been disclosed, but since this MPV is a Europe-only affair, we expect a range of both gasoline and diesel engines to be on deck, mated to both manual and automatic transmissions. Surprise, surprise.
