Parhazee Khana anyone ?

One of my friends wanted to invite me for dinner. I told her that I only eat parhazee khana . She was stunned because she had invited other guests too so it would be very difficult for her to make a few parhazee khanas. She asked me what would I like for parhazee khana. I told her that I would like to eat .
Niharee
Biryanee
Pa ya
Koftay
She was so at ease after hearing that.
No seriously what’s up with typical parhazee khana in Pakistan. I refused to play sick or tell anyone about me being sick for the fear that my parents will put me on the parhazee khana.
Being in USA I never saw a doctor suggesting any special diet for seasonal illnesses and sicknesses.
Anybody else wants to share their thoughts and experiences about so called mong key dall key khichree , yakhnee or any other special family parhazee khana ?

Re: Parhazee Khana anyone ?

what exactly does parhazee khana mean? :aq:

Re: Parhazee Khana anyone ?

They are some simple foods your parents start feeding you when you have some seasonal illness , like flu, measles , fever etc.
Most popular are.
Mong key dall key khitchrey .
Ghost key liquidy yakhney.

I would love to have those when I am not sick but would like to have something with lots of mirch masla when I am sick.

Re: Parhazee Khana anyone ?

People avoid certain foods for various reasons.

  1. One of my friend's wife is a revert from Hinduism, and she is still a strict vegetarian. Muslims, especially desis, are notorious carnivores (as evidenced from your favorite dishes in the first post :) ). So anytime we invite her, we make sure there are a few vegetarian dishes or her.

  2. When we invite older people (like, really old) we do ask them in advance about their dietary restrictions. Most of them can't eat spicy food, or oily food, so we do make separate arrangements for them.

  3. If we invite a known diabetic, then we make sure there are fruits after dinner, in addition to or in place of usual dessert items.

  4. If someone is sick and is on a diet of yakhni and khichri, then my advice will be that they should not be attending parties and dinners, and should instead be resting at home. Not to mention they may be contagious (sp?) as well.
