^I agree, its a lot to do with ignorance. I'm thinking more of the parents who swear ALL the time at their kids though. One lady (desi) on our street swears at her kids and they all swear at each other now. Very bad.

Kids born in west do no understand desi bad words like if you call them Ullo they will think that you are complimenting them for their smartness. If you call them gadha they think you are complimenting them for being innocent. If you call them soo’er ka bacha they think you are calling them gutter ka bacha which is totally incomprehensible for them. ( in USA gutter is written as sewer and pronounced as soo’er)
Desi do not like to use English bad words for their kids because they think they are too offending.

It need not be confined to just curse/swear words. There are parents (desi and otherwise) who in anger will make fun of the way their kids look...which has nothing to do with argument or issue at hand. I remember a mom getting mad at her teenage daugther for something...and she's gritting her teeth, yelling at her, calling her "ugly pimply face".....which had no relevance to the issue that sparked the conflict. Because such comments are more "specific" .....they can be more hurful than a string of curse words, which tend to be "common/overused in general" and sort of "vague", for a lack of a better word.

Thanks for bringing that up. Yup, that can be pretty damaging to the kid....more so than swaer words.
