What a tremendously emotional even this must be for them! When an Olympian waits by the stands for their mother/father to climb down and give them a hug my eyes fill up with tears and I choke up. How wonderful for them.
I think I would be a basket-case if I had such an honor…
I was thinking exactly the same when watching Missy Franklin won and her mom getting overwhelmed with joy. Parents of these athletes have been taking their kids to practice since they were little kids. These parents have invested so much of their lives to see their children on that podium and be the best that they could be.
