cuz of all the messed up people who are in the biz
only a few people have survived the industry without getting involved in big scandals and those are people like shehzad roy and hadiqa kiani and a few others but besides that there arent many people with good reputations in the biz
but thats a steryotype we need to change in pakistan i think these days better people are getting involved with showbiz especially the youngsters getting involved are on the right path
well if your having that dilema well then hopefull you will get on the right path to success

showbiz people are usually twisted in their head. if you have ever mingled with them you would know that. even in the west it's not really considered to be a respectable profession. I have seen a lot of goras looking down upon them.they would much rather want thier children to be doctors or lawyers just like our parents.
I think our tv lot used to be very educated and groomed. but now even that industry has been taken hostage by corrupt and uneducated people.

zobia i am not in pakistan and still my mom is bummed about me working in media and studying media. . . even though i am not doing any of the chichora kaams like acting etc…
mainly my focus is photography and journalism and still she is like aisha!:aq:
she had a heart attack almost when i told her i was going to photograph for LV:bummer:
and she got another one when i told her i got an internship with a tv channel…
and this is despite the fact that majority of our family business is media/channels:rotfl:
my mom is very religious and conservative so yea!

Zobs, I guess it's because of the scandals attached to that industry. It's almost like you cannot have a decent career in showbiz anymore.

religious and cultural inhibitions, a fear of stepping out of the norm and doing something that is not considered a 'respectable' profession in our society.
Of late the tv industry is getting a well-educated lot from very respectable families, they have been successful but i'm sure it was a struggle to earn that respect in a society such as ours which has pre-conceived notions regarding artists and their family backgrounds. we all love watching our dramas and love critiquing their work but I find that an element of respect is missing for them. artists are openly called names such as kanjars and mirasis, just do a search on these words on this very forum and you will find artists referred to with these names. What parent in their right mind would want to invite this onslaught of abuse upon them or their children.

I would say thats what attract ppl in shobiz on first place. Being with ppl they dream about.
When they are there its easy to lose your self and do thing you wont do in a million years.

No! ^ Its not always about religion...there are so many people..girls, guys coming on television all of a sudden these days...
i agree that its not only a religion thing but i dont think working in the pakistani media industry is decent either.
PLEASE dont get me wrong or think that i'm close minded or something. but seeing the pak entertainment. industry i'm getting mixed feelings. I think that Hollywood might be better to work in or even indian tv.
For one we can't DISAGREE with the fact that PAKISTAN IS A MUSLIM COUNTRY. there are a % of non-muslims but most of pakistan is based on islam. right???
SO why are we all of a sudden changing to something we're not. Our culture is definitely going away. I'm not saying that being modernized is a bad thing but it should be kept to limits. I really cant see any pak culture in the way people talk or dress... REALLY we already KNOW theres a Hollywood and Bollywood. why are you trying to be someone your not.
I dont live in pakistan but from what you see from tv it definitely doesn't seem like they're any better than bolly. Take aside the the soaps and dramas but just look AT AWARD SHOWS. I understand that you should wear dresses when going to a party, i do the same. But i don't wear mini dresses and talk like i'm in LA, doing a MTV show or something. REALLY there's a limit. I wear western clothes to but it still shows who i am.
I really hope pakistani media industry would stop being someone there not and start promoting their own identity.

because in some cases the lifestyle has negative connotations. At one point in time i had a chance to do music stuff more seriously and even have s aong on Music Channel Charts, when my folks found out it was a straight no you cant do it. majority of it had to be due to my sister's inlaws who are a very conservatiev family and it could create issues for her. it was tough and I walked away, its a big regret of mine, not that I wanted to do something professionally fulltime anyways, but then if it had any chance of creating a mess for my sis, then I suppose I made a wiser choice. Her dignity and respect is worth more than my hobby.

I think I would think it would be fine if you have limits...but seriously I don't think its worth pursuing it full time. Too competitive....less pay unless you are a super star.
