Do you think Pakistanis are more involved in the school life/work of their children (K-12), than non-Pakistanis.
By Pakistani, I do not mean Indian.

Re: Parents and School-Going Children
No I don't think they are and one reason is that
some of them are not as educated.
Re: Parents and School-Going Children
No i dont think they are more involved. Of course there are some paki parents that may be an exception to the rule. However generally speaking, they just tell their kids to get an education but they dont really help them in anyway nor do they get involved in the entire educational process. I think our generation and the generation to come will change that inshallah.
Re: Parents and School-Going Children
The pakistanis I have seen overseas are very much involved in their kid's education, extra curricular activities, etc.
Re: Parents and School-Going Children
yes the indians are very involved with thier kids
Re: Parents and School-Going Children
The Pakistanis who grew up abroad and r now married with kids, they seem to be as involved as non-Pakistani parents r...SOME parents who r new to Europe and America seem to take a backseat perhaps, just bcos they think they don't know enough about this culture, to be so involved...however, in my family my parents were very involved (and they were born/raised in Pak)...only area where they were not so involved in was sports...but as far as work was concerned, they were always on top of it.
Re: Parents and School-Going Children
I can't say for others but i am really involved n n so was my mother back in pak
Re: Parents and School-Going Children
MMmmm honestly no my parents werent... they were just like "get an education".. even now my mom's like do watever u want as long as it will benefit u in teh long run... i never remember asking for help in math or science form my mom and dad, maybe if i had i wudn't be such a dummy now :(
Re: Parents and School-Going Children
Sara, you are not alone in this, there are a lot of parents like this. There are lot of studies on this subject, thanks to my wife I have to listen to these studies/stories every day, and all these studies conclude that the educational level of the parents speaks volumes when it comes to active school participation. I think that Pakistanis parents would not be an exception.
Re: Parents and School-Going Children
in the great land of Ingland they are as a whole not so enthusiastic
they are inclined to be to be more interested in the Male childs education especially before they attend secondary education
after age 11 or 12 when secondary ed starts, they are show more interest on both the girl child and the man child
The situation is however getting better.
Re: Parents and School-Going Children
Minime, well my mom was matric pass,.... my dad was a lawyer in pak acutally, and that was always the source of conflict btw her and my dads family, they wanted someone more parhi-likhi, he wanted someone likeher, who wud stay home etc etc... of course he wants diff for me tho, wants me to be very educated and work if i want etc...
Re: Parents and School-Going Children
Most paki families I know are actively involved in their kids education and extra curricular activities. My parents were always involved in our education and pretty much everything else, a little more involved then we actually wanted them to be but it wasn't too bad. when I was in-between jobs just a while ago my dad wanted me to go back to school and finish the designation I started, and I am suppose to start my business early next year inshallah and my parents been great in terms of support and guidance. I think it also depends on how educated your parents are and how they are raised. My dad's an engineer and also got a business and my mom has a BA, so I don't know.
Re: Parents and School-Going Children
I think our parents are not involved with us during our school years, but the current generation parents are. Like my friends who take their kids, swimming after school, get involved w/ their debate, project etc. assignments being working mothers at the same time.
Re: Parents and School-Going Children
I think it doesn't matter if the parents are educated or not...some will be active in their kids' school work and some won't.
