Hi all… This might have been discussed here before i am not too sure so i will ask again. I had this in mind for a long time and it came back to me when i saw Daniel Shah’s thread regarding Moderate muslims.
My question is what people here think of Hijaab or Pardaa. Do you regard it religiously as a choice or as a compulsion a necessity. Personally i think when Allah and Quran tell you something then thats is it . Its not a matter of choice anymore but lack of my knowledge means that i do not have the reference to support it. So is every Muslim girl then bound to be in Pardaa.
As is apparent, there are two opinions
- Pardaa is waajib, (comes from the opinion of ibn Abbas radiAllahuanhu and the ahadeeth narrated by Aisha radiAllahuanha)
- Pardaa is mustahabb, and a woman can only show her face and hands (come from the ahadeeth of the Prophet salAllahualaihiwasallam)
Interesting.............. I thought it was Huzrat Umar ra who first raised the issue and then there was a Wahi about the issue.......I am not sure where and how is it mentioned in Quran.
Yes there’re few ahdith and they kind of contradict each other and that’s why there’s difference of opinions among scholars. But before we move on to ahdith first we must look what Quran says, if it’s clear in Quran that covering face is wajab then why do we even bother arguing on ahdith and find which is sahih and which is hasan.
Please saroo read my post in the thread “niqab”, you can find it on the 2nd page. Since my post are less than 25 i can’t paste a link here.
To be honest, i don’t understand what are the reasons that makes scholars to have different opinions regarding Islamic issues. I’m no body, mashAllah those scholars are great people and may Allah be please with them. But when Allah says over and over In Quran “Obey Allah and His messenger”, even there’s hadith in which Prophet:saw: said that whoever obeys me he obeys Allah Subhaanhu Wa Ta’ala as well.
In this hadith, it’s clear that only those Muslims will get into Jaanah who follow Prophet(SAW) and his companions (RA). Then why in the world we don’t do what they did? Do we have any proof which states that any wife of Prophet (SAW) or any other Sahabi (RA) didn’t cover her face in front of other non-meharam? Also, why do forget that hadith in which Prophet(SAW) said a person can commit zina with his eyes! I hope this clarifies everything!
You are referring to the initial command of Hijab.
Saheeh Bukhari:
Volume 1, Book 4, Number 148
Narrated 'Aisha:
The wives of the Prophet used to go to Al-Manasi, a vast open place (near Baqia at Medina) to answer the call of nature at night. 'Umar used to say to the Prophet "Let your wives be veiled," but Allah's Apostle did not do so. One night Sauda bint Zam'a the wife of the Prophet went out at 'Isha' time and she was a tall lady. 'Umar addressed her and said, "I have recognized you, O Sauda." He said so, as he desired eagerly that the verses of Al-Hijab (the observing of veils by the Muslim women) may be revealed. So Allah revealed the verses of "Al-Hijab" (A complete body cover excluding the eyes.)
And this Ayaah was revealed
Verse 33.53: "If you ask his wives for anything, speak to them from behind a curtain. This is more chaste for your hearts and their hearts."
To be honest, i don't understand what are the reasons that makes scholars to have different opinions regarding Islamic issues.
Walaikum as salaam,
There was difference even among the Sahabah over a lot of issues and this happened during and after the Prophet salAllahualaihiwasallam. When the sahabah were told to not pray Asr until they get to Banu Quraydah and some prayed Asr before reaching there while others prayed after getting there and the Prophet acknowledged both interpretations.
There's also the Ridda Wars where Umar radiAllahuanhu thought that AbuBakr radiAllahuanhu was sending out armies against muslims. And when the army of ibn Zaid was to be sent out Abu Bakr radiAllahuanhu was told by everyone even ibn Zaid not to send this army but he still did it.
By the way just to make it clear the so called hadeeth "Difference of opinion is a mercy", that is so often quoted is not a hadeeth of the Prophet.
My point is that differences of fiqh will always exist in the Ummah.
Some scholars like ibn Uthaymeen say that Pardaa / Niqaab is wajib (is also the opinion of Maudadi) while others like Al-Albaani say it is mustahabb.
And you can find books on both points of view.
I am just pointing out both opinions, and I don't have a right to dismiss one opinion over the other because I am not a scholar. And I have seen evidence from both points of view.
And from what I have read the Prophets wives radiAllahuanhunna wore niqab, and I think Al-Albaani in his response has shown some Ahadeeth where some women did not cover their faces.
