Paralysed

Is it normal for a 18-20 year old boy to be paralysed for waist down all of a sudden…what might be the reason behind it?

many reasons possible.

give some more info

-other symptoms?
-what happened prior to that?
-fever?
-trauma?
etc

can athritis cause this type of disability?

nooo, arthritis doesn't cause paralysis. Of course ur joints can become immobile and instable due to arthritis, but that ur muscles get paralyzed is not a feature of that. :)

Its probably somthing related to slipped discs or infection in the sciatic nerves(i believe thats wat they are called). Im saying this because the boy complained of pain in the legs before that , that could have been due to any one of those. I think its possible that he could have been completely paralysed because sometthing is pressing against the nerve too hard . An mri of the lower back , id say L 4-5 and L5 S-1 area should be able to reveal the problem.

p.s dont count on me though , i aint no doctor :)
