Parallel universes/realities

I don’t know how many of u have seen the sci-fi show called “Sliders”,was one of my favs while growing up. It was basically about a group of people who travel to an alternate reality but can’t get back to their reality and hence kept on travelling through various “Earths” until they found theirs.

I am no Stephen hawking, but it got me thinking is another reality really possible? Have they got any plausible theories on it?

It’d be really cool to think that a person who looks like me is someone of importance like Bill Gates in another reality.

Sliders are mini burgers and parallel universe is the religion forum. Yes, TNC,you CAN have it all. :bhangra:

I'd rather be someone important myself than to depend on some imposter who will look down on me

The multiverse theory has been around for a while. I'm not stephen hawking, but I think there is some theoretical basis for this. The idea is (for the most popular version of this theory) that every time you are faced with a choice, you will stand the chance of creating another (or more than one) universes where you took the other choice(s) than the one you are currently in. Now, going from how even little choices affect the future and can to a larger and larger degree as the farther and farther from the original event it gets, that means, there could be another universe where you are like Bill Gates, a hobo or maybe not even existing.

Re: Parallel universes/realities

I loved it. :k:

The possibilities are endless!!

In a universe in which millions of stars and thousands of galaxies exist, why would have God chosen only Earth to be inhabited by living things. The presence of the whole uiverse around us cannot be meaningless.

I consider time itself as parallel worlds. The past, the present and the future. As yet man has not been able to discover a way to travel back in time, but that would only be possible if the past still existed. Same goes for the future. Future is predictable because somewhere in a parallel world it has already happened, a world where our future is its past.

String theory (in part an effort to reconcile general relativity with quantum mechanics) requires at least a ten dimension world - 3D plus time that we already know of, plus six additional dimensions too miniscule to be observable using today's technology.

In theory, special relativity describes time travel into the future in a sense, whereby a space traveller or whoever travelling a sizeable fraction of the speed of light would return home after say ten years (according to him) whereas thirty years have elapsed on earth - he's gone forward thirty years in just ten...

Travelling backwards in time would require travel in excess of light speed would it not?? Quantum mechanics allows for instantaneous (faster-than-light) transfer of information and even forms of teleportation... but it's still bordering on sci-fi...
