I think I have quite a rich Panjabi vocabulary but sometimes I feel a bit weak when it comes to understaning all the words of Abrar-Ul-Haq songs. One such song is “Panjabi Touch” from his latest album “Asaan Jana Malo Maal”. I need a bit help with some words in this song.
The line after “Hoye lagdi hai japan dee par hai pichhoun multan dee” sounds like:
Idhay makhrani thalochi tay panjabi touch
What’s “makrani thalochi”??
During the last part of the song:
Hoye dil mera teno pyar kare enoo ???
What does ??? stand for?
I’m sure that some of you have sharper ears than mine and a bit more understanding of Panjabi than me. So plz help me!
I thought it could be "makrani, balochi" but certainly it doesn't soung like that at all... he sings more like Makhrani (is it a place in pak) Thalochi (and that's not Balochi)...

It's not a racist comment against non-punjabis, I haven't heard that song fully but I'm pretty sure he's saying the music whether it's Makrani or Balochi will be given a Punjabi touch. Now if you're paranoid, you might well take that to mean that Punjabis are going to wipe out Balochi and Makrani culture. Really though, it's just a song with a bit of a banghra beat, I wouldn't read too much into it.

I cant even verify if that's true or not, as most of abrar's songs i dont understand at all. Nonetheless, his beat makes up for me not understanding punjabi. But even if THAT is true, it is an ethnocentric comment, no doubt about it. Abrar ought to know better ...he's a national icon, he should not be saying such immature nonsense.
I've just listened to that song now and in fact it should read:
deyday makhrani tay 'lochi tay panjabi touch
which translates as: give the music a Makrani, 'lochi or Punjabi touch
so in fact it's not ethnocentric at all. I think people get too touchy about these things and we've already had the name of the song changed and now it looks like the albumn title's been changed as well.
Most of Abrar's work seems to go through the grinder. I'm surprised that 'KurriyaN L'hore diyaN' didn't get banned the way things are going.
It's supposed to be Balochi, unless Mr Abrab ul Haq has come up with some new ethnicity called "Thalochi".
And considering how Punjab dominated Pakistani government has treated Balochs, every Pakistani Punjabi must hang his head in shame when they mentioin Balochi.
Balochi is btw the language, Baloch is the ethnicity.

well yeah when i went back to that site and read the song it didn't make much sense to me either....well i guess ppl who contribute lyrics to that site also don't know punjabi...well my fault i told u to check it out there..sorry hope ppl who know more punjabi than me will sort it out for u.. good luck
