Panic attack does not really harm you physically, panic attacks will affect you
psychologically. These attacks usually come and go and are the response of the body to a threat, which may be real or not.The person who suffer from this condition may feel their heart pounding in their chest and have trouble breathing, making them feel like they are going to die.
I have read this in kickpanicaway.com/ and this help me in overcoming panic attack.Hope you will also feel good after reading this book.
A very enlightening post for me atleast. If its panic attacks, Im a permanent entertainer of them. I hope the tips can work for me aswell. thanks for sharing everyone.
How can one overcome these panic attacks?? I usually get them right before the exam and its the worst time to get. It effects your overall performance regardless of how much you prepared for particular test/exam.
The antidote I found for myself was to get careless and carefree for time being. At least then I can perform my tasks much easily compare to when im all stressed and getting panicky.
Gosh thats horrible. I used to get them before and they are terrifying to deal with. Meditation really helps as does shifting focus to something else... drink water, try to occupy yourself in conversation with someone, tell a joke laugh, do something but try to concentrate on something else. Even taking a walk helps.

I never knew what panic attacks were. I was such a chilled out person during exams. But this one time I had loads of tough classes to take in undergrad and I had back to back exams. In one of the exams I was expecting high or low 90s but the real score was a disaster :D And right after finding score I had another exam for another class and that time I started to get panicky, It was soo severe that I had to leave the hall in the middle of the exam to go out and breath and calm myself.
And since then I get them when I know howmuch the task means to me. I can't help it now. Only I found was to busy myself into anything other than books right before the exam.
Is there any difference between Panic attack and Anxiety attack or are they same
There are whole bunch of Anxiety disorders. Whole wide category depending on the criteria and situation. Panic disorder/attack falls under such as per my understanding but the symptoms for anxiety attack and panic attack are the same. Triggering factor and physiological effects.
Panic attacks and anxiety attacks for the most part are same.
These are psychological conditions and not necessarily a disease state.
Being fearful of exams is quite normal. The only way to get rid of it by studying more and more.
Now having said that, sweating hand, pounding chest, breathing heavy is also a part of anxiety attack but what I have advice for you is to master all the knowledge first and if still have doubt then do the followings:
No guarentee but it worked for so many I know.
1- Pretend you are asked a particular question about the subject.
Try answer it and you must smile right away. Be confident.
I used to answer all possible (and even if they were silly) questions in my head before going to bed several days before the exam.
This really gave me confidence and I did not have sweaty hands and pounding chest.
I used to get up from bed, turn the light on and grab the book for any question possible came to my mind about the exam. This gave me a lot of confidence. I thought to myself. Bring it on. I am prepared.
Now Just to let you know so many people used the beta-blockers before they made
public speech.
This kept them calm and cool looking without using their arms and fake smiling face.
No chest pain.
No pounding in chest.
No racing thougts.
No sweaty palms.
No sweaty armpits. Euwwwwww.
I guess one should have a balance between over confidence and under confidence. If you think you know it all then upon not getting desired result it can trigger the panic attack and same goes with not knowing much.
I guess for me the thought of “what if” triggers the panic attack. It takes me couple to few hours to make myself realize that I did what I could and I will not let it flow down the drain easily. I offer 2 rakats prayers and it pretty much calms me down.
ahhh I wish I knew this thread was opened before.
It has great advices indeed :k:
Thankyou DhobiBhai =)
I rather avoid taking unnecessarily medication unless I have to. If I know I can control my panic then I try to work on it. Giving medicine out for such symptoms should be avoided. Its even more fun and challenging to control on your own with your own motivation :k:
In my case, I get hyperventilation. I breath heavily - like asthma attack. So, I shouldn’t really take beta blockers for it
Beta blockers are good for blocking chemicals bringing on
chest pain
racing heart or feeling of it
sweating palms
and sweaty armpits.
Only if they are really needed.
Running and jogging to train your heart is good also. We know regular atheletes have slow heart beat and do not easily get fast or pounding heart beat.
I suffered for many years until I found out what the problem was. Even then I waited until the problem became debilitating before I sought medical help. Thanks to the docs, meds and the Almighty I can live normally now, albeit with the help of meds :)
