pakoray help!!

hey everyone!

ive been craving pakoray for a few days, but i dont have besan (i think thats what its called) anyway the yellow gram flour thingy…i also dont have access to an asian store, so the other day i got uncooked chickpeas thinking i cud grind them to make flour but i didnt know they’d be so HARD (i dont have a food processor)
so um…is there any substitute flour i can use or will i have to stay pakora-deprived till i go to pakistan :frowning:

Re: pakoray help!!

Re: pakoray help!!

Why not make a tempura batter? Its not the same as besan but it does provide a crispy coating.

Re: pakoray help!!

u can get gram flour from non asian stores too

Re: pakoray help!!

elina you're in USA or canada so i can't help you with finding a store.

Re: pakoray help!!

don't use chickpea powder...i did that once thinking its the same thing as besan and it wasn't! the pakoray didn't get coated well and the chickpea flour soaked up ALL the oil from frying so basically it was like eating fried flour drenched with oil :(

Re: pakoray help!!

tigerlily whats tempura batter
this is so complicated, cooking is so hard :( everything i cook turns out like burnt+raw at the same time its so like weird food shud be either burnt or raw not both together :s
i'll just wait til i go to pakistan i guess, not too long to go now thank heavens! :)
