Re: Pakistan's victory against India...Is it really an achievement?

within the historical context - its nothing big... but within the current scheme of things when the team hasn't had any real matches against formidable opponents in more than 8 months and with the couple of consecutive defeats against India... I'd say the win does mean something!

At the very least, it goes to show that given the will and determination, even this team which isn't rated as highly as some of our previous teams is not all that bad afterall.

Re: Pakistan's victory against India...Is it really an achievement?

First multination tournament win in 5 years. Yes, that would be big.

What multi-nation tournament win? A 10+ match-winning streak against Bangladesh is discarded for good but a single solitary win over them in a tri-series is counted? The two teams for the finals were already decided before the series began. It would have been an achievement if the series was fought competitively with teams that are more or less on-par or better. The team played poorly in the group stage but came back in the finals which meant that team is starting to look more like a unit, and even then with the assistance of those whose time was up for performance. This is more gelling the unit together on a sub-continental pitch against India who wants to cram everything in their calendar with pop-culture Twenty/20's and sorts. A win translates into an achievement for the team when it is consistent, team is performing under pressure when facing tough opponents and playing on better surfaces. During the group stage, we folded in half. Yes we won the final, but they made a match out of it.

It is not just the captain who needs to perform, it is the whole team, you cannot expect to take out the central piece and have everyone work together. After the whole Asif scandal and Nasim Ashraf's recent surge in popularity, the most important focus right now is to get back to cricket. There is too much outside focus right now to think that a single win will force to sweep out everything else under the carpet.

Re: Pakistan's victory against India...Is it really an achievement?

victory against anyone is an achievement....

I would call it a some sort of consolation, even though it's still a victory. Pakistani cricket teams victories are generally by chance. You can never predict if they are going to win based on their performance record. The most undependable team it is!
On some days they can loose from Bangladesh or Ireland for that matter and on some good days they can win from Australia.
Nevertheless, it was a needed consolation after the worst defeat they had from India.

Are you suggesting Pakistani team is not at par with Bangladesh? :aq: I thought it was :bummer:

Re: Pakistan’s victory against India…Is it really an achievement?

anything against India is an achievement :snooty:

Re: Pakistan’s victory against India…Is it really an achievement?

the way i look at it, A WIN IS A WIN, and in addition to that india has been very strong for the past year or so in the final of a tournament and beating them with an inform top order and pretty much a lengthy batting lineup i would say we shouldnt downplay this win. GOOD WORK Team Pakistan :k:

Re: Pakistan's victory against India...Is it really an achievement?

I dont think it was an achievement. India was still the best team in the tournament. Having said that, normally an Indian loss to Pakistan saddens me a lot, but this time I hardly cared about even checking the score.

Well the victory is significant from the point of view of raising the confidence and morale of our players who have had little big to celebrate lately. We beat a good side like India who had outclassed us in the group game. Another heavy defeat would have been very demoralising for our players. Self-belief comes from winning and this win should give them much needed confidence ahead of the more significant Asia Cup. It was also our first win against a major team for some time having only played against lowly-rated Bangladesh and Zimbabwe recently. Beyond that I would not like to read too much into it because this is limited overs cricket which has its own limitations. The outcome pretty much depends on how you perform on a given day. Matches between two evenly matched teams can have very different outcomes on different days depending on who wins the toss, who bats first etc. These things do matter in tests as well but less so. Bat first in ODI, put runs on the board (and hence Malik's captaincy was n't really tested!!) and the game is pretty much yours and vice versa. It does not test your strengths and weaknesses to the same degree as test cricket where you can still lose despite scoring 500+ in the first innings! I still rate the current Indian team as better than ours (minus Akhtar). Remember the same team recently beat Australia in a tri-series. Also India were missing no less that 4 of their main players - Tendulkar (who was instrumental in that tri-series victory) and Bhajji (? injured); Ganguly and Dravid (both dropped). India will be without all 4 in the Asia Cup as well. Pakistan will also be without Akhtar and Asif.

Victory in Asia Cup will be more significant for sure.

A win is a win, no matter what.

India is red hot team at the moment. Their players have been in good form and have played a lot of cricket recently. Pakistan on the other hands haven't played much cricket in almost 8 months and players like Malik, Misbah etc. have been in poor form recently.

It might not be an achievement but it's a win against their arch rival India. And the credit goes to Pakistan. give credit where its due.

Re: Pakistan's victory against India...Is it really an achievement?

it's special because Pak came from behind having lost by a huge margin the previous match. India would have made a big deal if they had won.

Re: Pakistan's victory against India...Is it really an achievement?

It more of an achievement then our 12 match ODI streak against Mugababwe and Bangla.

Re: Pakistan's victory against India...Is it really an achievement?

India has beaten the hellouuta Pakistan in everything else so a game win is at least some consolation

Frankly I don't think the Indian team is anywhere as good as it is being hyped. Aussies, SA, Sri Lanka can still beat India on cri0ket 2 outa 3.

Re: Pakistan's victory against India...Is it really an achievement?

I think it is, I lost alot of heart after seeing that 150 or so loss against India and just when so many people lost faith in the team, they proved they are capable of defeating India! As Mughal said, a victory is a victory! With that said, well played India.

Where is the thread opener :ASA:

Re: Pakistan's victory against India...Is it really an achievement?

Definitely this win is a worth praising .Pakistan won against all odds .People had literally written off the team and they came back well .As an Indian i am disapponted as well.
