Re: Pakistan’s Tsunami Relief Operations

I was searching for this image for quite a while. It really makes me proud of our Navy. This is a photograph of PNS Tariq which along with the PNS Nasr were on a goodwill visit to Maldives just a day before the tsunami hit. Even though local boats did not assist, but still these ships went ahead to rescue tourists who would otherwise have not had a chance. Not only that, the crew went on rations so that food could be distributed to those rescued until they were transported to a safe place. If anyone could please find articles detailing this rescue operation (I know there is one in Pakistan Observer but I can’t find it) and post them here, I would be grateful.

I got this image from http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/asiapcf/12/29/maldives.ap/index.html

Another news report talks about some of the early Pakistani relief efforts in general but goes into a little bit of detail about this rescue operation can be found here:http://www.irinnews.org/report.asp?ReportID=44849&SelectRegion=Central_Asia&SelectCountry=PAKISTAN
