Pakistan's tour of Australia/Australia announce squad (Merged)

I just hope the selectors don't dump Misbah again, and this tour doesn't turn to be cold winter for Pak fans. :(

Best of luck.

SHabbir isnt going according to bob woolmers website…

no shabbir again. this is not good. we need somebody who can swing the ball on his speed. rana, afridi are not close to him. and one our quick bowlers seems to have forgetton how to swing.

oh no, this is not good :frowning:

yep inzi confirmed today shabbira isn’t going down under as they don’t want to rush him to soon after his surgery. i don’t think we stand achance in the bowling department and the fact that, we hav never won a test series in oz {correct me if i’m worng} will haunt us once again.

the way the aussies skittled the kiwi’s today in the 1st test at the gabba only speaks highly of their dominance in both forms of the game.

ya allah madad :jhanda:

InshAllah we will manage without Shabbir

Pakistan need to take atleast 3 fast bolwers, Abdul Rauf, Rana Naveedul Hassan and Mohammad Khalil probably will have to compete for the 3rd slot.

ya very sad:(

there is no way we r going to stop the ausies without shabbir. i don't even know why rana is even in the team and the other young bowlers might be good but have no experience. the best hope for us right now is not to get slaughtered and give them some competition

IMHO , Afridi should also get a chance in tests . Sounds crazy but just check his stats . I think better than his ODI ones . If I have seen talent in any one then that is Afridi . He does'nt have a lot of spin or some thing special but he thinks the batsmen out . And some times after watching Gilchrist's success in tests , I wonder why no Afridi , man .

How about this..
Open with Wajahatul Wasti and Salim Elahi.. wishful thinking

As far Sami is concerned if he can't perform well in Australian fast bouncy pitches then he doesn't deserve any place.

Seventeen-member Pak squad

for Aussie tour to be named today

While Shoaib Akhtar, Sami, Rana Naved and Kaneria were confirmed selections, there would be two choices from amongst the three rookie pace bowlers Asif, Khalil and Yasir Ali

By our correspondent

KARACHI: The Chairman of the national selection committee has delayed the announcement of the touring squad to Australia until Monday but confirmed it would include 17 players.

Wasim Bari said the selectors had held their meeting on Sunday in Lahore.

“But we also want to have a final word with the captain and coach before announcing the squad,” Bari stated.

Captain Inzamam-ul-Haq could not attend the meeting as he was not unwell and didn’t come to the stadium.

Interestingly, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan was under the impression that the touring squad was to be announced on Sunday evening.

When contacted for his comments on his recent visit to India, Shaharyar inquired if the team for Australia had been announced and added it was supposed to be released by Sunday evening.

The Chairman is supposed to give final approval for any touring squad and going by his comments, apparently, the squad was finalized on Sunday.

But Bari said that there was nothing sinister about the announcement being deffered to Monday.

“Inzamam also was not available today at the ground since he was not feeling well. But everything has been finalized among the selectors and there is consensus with the captain and coach on this,” he added.

He also made it clear that the touring squad would only be for the Test matches and there would be changes for the triangular one-day series that follows in January.

Pakistan manager Haroon Rasheed said that the fitness trials had been concluded by late afternoon as were the nets for the group of 10 fast bowlers.

“The players have been released and while some will have a rest others would be playing in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy games from the 22nd,” he said.

Indications are that they are not many surprises in the touring squad and Inzamam has played it safe by asking the selectors to give him 17 players instead of the usual 15 or 16.

“Inzamam told the selectors he wanted the 17 to acclimatize to the conditions in Australia from the start (The Pakistan team is going to Australia a week in advance) so that there would be plenty of back up available for the first leg of the tour involving two four-day tour games and the three tests.”

“Inzamam pointed out that in Australia where the pitches and outfields are hard there are always niggling injury problems so he would like to have a squad of 17 as the distance to Australia was also great and one could not rush any replacement player overnight,” a source close to the selectors said.

In this background there is talk about allrounder Shahid Afridi being picked as the 17th player and allowing him to prepare for the one-day matches with the team.

There is a lot of stress on picking a battery of pace bowlers while no experimentation has been made in the batting line-up.

Openers Taufiq Umar, Imran Farhat and Salman Butt have apparently got the nod for the tour with the middle order revolving around Yasir Hameed, Younis Khan, Asim Kamal, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Yousuf Youhana with wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal and the two all-rounders Abdul Razzaq and Shoaib Malik.

Sources said that while Shoaib Akhtar, Muhammad Sami, Rana Naved and leg-spinner Danish Kaneria were confirmed selections, there would be two selections from amongst the rookie pace bowlers Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Khalil and Yasir Ali who had impressed the selectors and the captain and coach with their bowling in the nets.

“A battery of five fast bowlers are due to be selected with Rana Naved getting the nod because the captain and coach have confidence in him and they also want more experience in the bowling line-up which is why Afridi has also been given a thought,” the source said.

PCB bast** are going to drop Afridi and keep useless khan.

Pak Squad for Australia Announced

just saw on geo that khalil and mohammad asif were named to the squad, as well as shahid afridi...i might be wrong but i dont think i saw taufeeq's name on the list... thats kinda weird, looks like farhat/butt and hameed will be opening and either younis or kamal at one down... or maybe malik... i wasnt expecting afridi to get selected.. i heard asif is pretty fast... khalil must be alot better than he was before cause he wasnt that great from what i recall... but the biggest surprise was afridi

Afridi has improved his bowling alot, so i think he did deserve to be selected.
