Pakistan's ODI and T20 squads annouced...Younus Returned in ODI

ODI squad: Mohammad Yousuf (capt), Shahid Afridi (vice-capt), Umar Akmal, Imran Farhat, Fawad Alam, Kamran Akmal, Saeed Ajmal, Umar Gul, Rao Iftikhar, Shoaib Malik, Khalid Latif, Mohammad Aamer, Naved-ul-Hasan, Sarfraz Ahmed, Salman Butt, Younis Khan, Mohammad Asif.

Twenty20 squad: Shahid Afridi (capt), Umar Akmal, Imran Farhat, Fawad Alam, Kamran Akmal, Saeed Ajmal, Umar Gul, Rao Iftikhar, Shoaib Malik, Khalid Latif, Mohammad Aamer, Naved-ul-Hasan, Sarfraz Ahmed, Salman Butt, Rao Iftikhar, Imran Nazir, Mohammad Asif.

Whatever happend to Shahzayb Hasan and Tanveer? I think Sohail Tanveer is better bowler (and batter) than Naved Ul Hasan…

Younis Khan returns for Australia ODIs | Cricket News | Australia v Pakistan 2009/10 | Cricinfo.com

Younis Khan, the former Pakistan captain who took a break from international cricket in November while claiming he had “lost command” of the side, has been picked in a squad of 17 for the five-match ODI leg of the tour of Australia. However, Mohammad Yousuf will continue to lead the side with allrounder Shahid Afridi as his deputy.

Younis’ resignation, following an ODI series defeat against New Zealand, came after months of reported unhappiness within the team over his leadership. He went underground immediately after, only to resurface suddenly while attending a PCB coaching course in Lahore and then turning out unimpressively on the domestic circuit. Subsequently there emerged a possibility that he may arrive in time for the ODI series.

Younis had been in contention for a place in the squad following Pakistan’s disappointing batting display in the ongoing Test series, and Yousuf had requested him at the start of the tour to join the squad “as soon as possible”.

Younis’ form since his absence from the national team, though, has been poor. He managed just 11 runs in two innings for Habib Bank Limited in the Quaid-E-Azam Trophy final, and just 18 in his team’s opening game of the Pentagular Cup in Karachi.

Kamran Akmal, after a torrid time behind the stumps in Sydney, has been retained and so has his replacement for the Hobart Test, Sarfraz Ahmed. Fast bowlers Rao Iftikhar and Naved-ul-Hasan, who didn’t play the Tests, join the ODI squad. Batsman Khalid Latif, who has represented Pakistan in four ODIs, has also been called up.

Pakistan have also announced their squad for the sole Twenty20 international; Afridi will lead the side and the batting will be boosted by the inclusion of the attacking opener Imran Nazir.

re: Pakistan’s ODI and T20 squads annouced…Younus Returned in ODI

I would like to know what Younis has done in domestic for ODI call.

Younis for ODIs… thats PCB for you :hehe:

re: Pakistan's ODI and T20 squads annouced...Younus Returned in ODI

Younis was omitted for tests and included for ODIs. This is absurd.

I thought he was more suited to test cricket.

re: Pakistan's ODI and T20 squads annouced...Younus Returned in ODI

So Sami is going back after playing just one Test, and Fawad Alam is coming back after having been flown home a couple of weeks ago.

If Kamran Akmal is being retained, then it means Sarfraz won't play in any ODIs, because it makes little sense to play Kamran as a pure batsman and Sarfraz as a keeper. In ODIs, dropped catches do not matter as much as in Tests, so the management would not "waste" a place in the squad for Sarfraz when they know they have Kamran.

Naved ul Hasan has become a specialist ODI and T20 player, and he's already in Australia so his selection is good. He emerged as the star of Pakistan's last tour of Australia in 2004/2005, troubling all batsmen with his swing, and deciding to stay with the team despite his father's death back home. Incidentally, Younis's father also died during that tour, so Younis immediately flew back home.

Sohail Tanvir, like Rana and Afridi, signed a contract with an Australian team for their T20 tournament, but he had a knee injury that kept him away. Otherwise, he probably would've made the Pakistan team.

Kaneria will also fly back, since Saeed Ajmal is a better choice for ODIs and T20s.

Rao Iftikhar, who I like, also makes a comeback. He has the ability to bowl swing, and keeps a tight line and length.

re: Pakistan's ODI and T20 squads annouced...Younus Returned in ODI

lol @ fawad coming back. I am sure it has cost PCB more to send Fawad back home for couple of weeks. They should have let him stay @ hotel in AUS :)

Dumb move to include Butt,Farhat and Latif ahead of Imran Nazir. Nazir can at least provide a quick start and he`s the best fielder in Pakistan.

Also congratulations to the PCB for allowing Fawad Alam to come home, see his family and return to Australia within 2 weeks.

Tax payers money well spent.

yousuf detained as captained =5-0 in favour of aus

re: Pakistan's ODI and T20 squads annouced...Younus Returned in ODI

I expect better result 4-1

Yousuf detained? When? Where?

lol i meant retained

Re: Pakistan's ODI and T20 squads annouced...Younus Returned in ODI

Why younis is back in the team ??????
I think Afridi is best choice of one day Captain, he is mentally strong and I believe his performance will be good after being Captain

Re: Pakistan's ODI and T20 squads annouced...Younus Returned in ODI

The sad part is...with Afridi and Younus being around, they will help Yousuf and Yousuf will look somewhat like a decent captain and will be retained as test captain if we win a couple ODI's. While the truth will be, without Younus and Afridi he is nothing as we have seen.

Its sad how he wants others to help him when he is the MOST senior player on the team yet his captaincy skills are worse then club level cricket and the whole Butt incident proved he has ZERO man managment skills.

Good to see Sarfraz Ahmed still there to keep the pressure up to Akmal and Khalid Latif is a very talented opener...I hope he does well so we dont see the likes of Farhat or Butt in ODI's.

Re: Pakistan's ODI and T20 squads annouced...Younus Returned in ODI

Imran Farhat or Salman Butt should have been replaced by Imran Nazir. Imran Nazir against Aussies would be great contest.

Re: Pakistan's ODI and T20 squads annouced...Younus Returned in ODI

some ppl at PCB need PANNJA

Re: Pakistan's ODI and T20 squads annouced...Younus Returned in ODI

Younis is a test player and not a limited overs play. Bad move

Agree Younis should play test matches. In one day Younis is worthless. I do not remember last time Younis has hit six to any fast bowler. Younis cannot hit six to the fast bowler. I have never seen Younis hitting six to any fast bowler.

PCB makes absolutely no sense. Fawad flew back business class, spent time with him family and now back to Austrlia for ODIs. As people have said, it cost more to flew him back and forth than to have retained him and sent someone else like Khurram Manzoor or Misbha or Faisal Iqbal who would not be part of the ODI squad. PCB cannot foresee 2 weeks ahead in their planning. Just shameless. That tells you just how badly managed they are.

They should have included Imran Nazir for ODIs and T20. Otherwise no need to bring him in just for one T20 match, flying business class from Pakistan for a 3 hour match. All the players fly business class. So just for one 3-hour T20 match, they are flying Imran Nazir. No wonder Pakistani cricket is the laughing stock of the cricketing world.
