This is an interesting article about a Bangladeshi, Mahmood Ali, who had gone to UN to represent Pakistan in some international conference. When he came back, Pakistan got partitioned. He was in Pakistan, and his family in Bangladesh. During these times, most of the Bengalese wanted to relocate towards Bangladesh. On the other hand, Mahmood wanted to bring all his family towards Pakistan. He requested the British and American cousulates for the purpose but to no avail.
He says that he contacted the Indonesian prime minister, who had become his friend during the conference to send his family blank Indonesian passports so that they could travel to Pakistan on that by attching their pictures on them. Hence his family travelled on the Indonesian passport, via Nepal and Thailand.
Although its an offence to do this, but Mahmood believes that in ’ War and love every thing is justified’.
When Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto became the Premier, he appointed Mahmood (a veteran of Muslim League who had worked with Quaid e Azam), as his advisor and as a gratitude to his decision to stay back in Pakistan and condemning the partition, he offered him the slot of ambassador for UK or US. He refused by saying that he wanted to remain in Pakistan. He says that on his refusal for ambassadorship Bhutto gave him three portfolios without naming them, and he is still the minister.
Although he is a Bengali, but still he has been opposing the creation of Bagladesh, and he has also created an organization called Tehreek e Takmeel e Pakistan, which has a dream that Bangladesh will once again become a part of Pakistan, although in the country he is serving as a ‘minister’ for life, has also recognized Bangladesh as a separate country.
