Pakistan's independence

Asalamualaikum to all! Hope this finds you all in good health and good spirit inshallah. I need some help from those of you who are historians or are good at your Pakistani history. I am writing a paper about Muhammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan for a leadership class. I had to choose someone who was an inspirational and life changing leader, so who better than him? In the paper I was going to give a bit of the history on who he was like the All India Muslim League leader from 1913 until Pakistan’s independence on August 14, 1947, and as Pakistan’s first governor general from August 15, 1947 until his death on September 11, 1948. This is all I know so far. I also know many Muslims from India packed their lives into small suitcases and took only the necessities to fulfill Jinnah’s dream of a Muslim state where everyone could live in peace. Can someone knowledgeable provide me with more information? Also if you lived through the time Pakistan was being made give me some background on that experience. I want to portray Jinnah as the great leader he really was and give Pakistan a positive look. Thanks for any contributions!

Re: Pakistan’s independence

Stanley Wolpert’s book, “Jinnah of Pakistan” is considered to be a good objective study of him as a leader and as a person. Wolpert’s other books give more background of his times and other important people of those times.

Re: Pakistan's independence

Thanks Kakab! I am not going to the library unfortunately as the paper is due monday. The problem is I have no car and am sort of sick. I am trying not to go out and get any sicker than I already am. I am not doing my paper last minute but rather did part of it on Gandhi but then thought Jinnah would be a better fit since many people know about Gandhi already and little to nothing on Jinnah ji. Thanks.

Re: Pakistan’s independence

fanna - why don’t you hit wikipedia? but don’t cut and paste from there especially since some classmate yours may do that too.

oops! after telling you to check wikipedia I went there myself and realized you have already been there and in fact cut and paste already from there (in your OP)! be careful you don’t do that in your paper:smack:

Re: Pakistan’s independence

Re: Pakistan's independence

Pakistan needs a revolution and complete removal of current system because it is not working. Pakistan has great potential massive youth population, mineral resources, strong military it has all the ingredients to be a success now it needs a structure and system that works!

Re: Pakistan's independence

This is very little help but thanks for the suggestion Kaka. I will read that book in my spare time. Yes, I know Gandhi and Jinnah met. They both respected each other although Gandhi was rooted in culture and Jinnah in modernism. Yes, I have read the article on wikipedia. I am taking some info from it but not all. Bindaz, no one in my class will choose Jinnah as we all told the professor who we chose earlier. Also, I live in the US so no white or black person knows Jinnah and if they have heard of him (rare though) then they know very little.

Re: Pakistan’s independence

I am not a scholar to help you. My English is also poor but I can give you a point , Present Pakistan is a Pakistan made by personal efforts of Qauid e Azam. Pakistan movement was backing him but this movement was successful in Sindh only. Punjab,KP and Baluchistan were in hand of others.
This old and sick even dying man devoted his life for the cause and God helped him. He did it through personal negotiations with Khan of Qalat, Nawab of Bahawalpur and others, struggled hard for KP referendum and and facing leaders of Takht e Lahore. See the link Unionist Muslim League and

but you will to find another book for knowing more.
