Pakistan's image in the Muslim world

How do you think Muslims from other parts of the world view the Pakistani state or the “fortress of Islam”?
From my interactions with Muslims from the middle east and elsewhere, they don’t have anything positive to say about Pakistan. I always ask if they would ever consider visiting Pakistan and the answer is “no” most of the time. I think people view us in the same light as Saudia. What do you think?

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

From my interaction people are mostly positive. Or neutral if not positive.

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

No one really likes us

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

Just to add, when I interact with ‘other’ muslims I dont go around asking what they think about Pakistan.
Your post suggests that you make special efforts to keep the focus on Pakistan.

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

yes if you will lump them up entirely as dead biryani mucnhing quom, you don’t need to ask people for their opinions.

And yes nobody ever told me : “they view us in the same light as Saudia”. If you want to make such comparisons, and prove Pakistan has no future and say all things negative about Pakistan, then don’t hide behind the word ‘people’ , use your nick TT.

Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

So this is how it usually goes. I look Arab so mostly people think I’m an Arab Muslim but when someone asks me I tell them I’m Pakistani and some of them think pakis are the most liberal Muslims out of all Muslims. Others say they cook good food. Some say they are fobs and sometimes I even get questions like why does your country support the Taliban like seriously Lol but most of the time it’s positive rather then negative.

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

^

What does “looking Arab” mean?

Pakistanis generally have a bad rep amongst Muslims. Sad part is that liberal Muslims hate Pakistan for being home of the Taliban/Al-Qeada, while the conservative Muslims hate Pakistan for being a U.S stooge. Even Pakistanis are generally pessimistic about their country.

I could care less about pre-concieved notions or what others think about us. I’d rather work for Pakistan’s betterment, instead of worrying about the haters.

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

I will give my personal interactions. I was detained by the National Security Agency in Sudan for “taking photos” when I shouldn’t have. Basically 2 hours in a room before I called my boss because I couldn’t handle it myself. Security and my boss came in and they spoke to General. I was called in and asked to explain. The general stated I as a khawaja was not allowed to take pictures. I have an issue whenever someone calls me a foreigner. I state in my very limited arabic I am not a khawaja. I am a Pakistani and I expect better treatment in a Muslim country. Long story short, I got a letter from NS allowing me to take pictures and travel to areas without seeking permission from the Sudanese armed forces or the National security services. The only person in the office to get that.

In Afghanistan its the exact opposite. There I was enemy number one.

Jordan and Egypt basically treated like a brother.

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

What else would I discuss on a PAKISTANI forum if not Pakistan. Considering the condition our nation is in, why aren’t you thinking about Pakistan?

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

Some people need to remove the chip from their shoulders on this forum. You are not any more Pakistani than me simply because you choose to see Pakistan through rose-coloured glasses. Your blind patriotism is the reason that corruption and terrorism have normalized in our society. Sorry to burst your privileged upper/middle class bubble but Pakistan is a country where majority of the population is impoverished and unpar jahil. If you don’t see a problem with this being the status quo, then people should be questioning your patriotism.

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

Its a futile question. Everyone hates pakistanis simple as that

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

“rainydays” I have much much worse things to say about what Pakistan looks like now but that’s not what this thread is about. Fortunately, Pakistan is not as crazy as Saudia, yet. But considering the events in the past few years, people, including Muslims in neighbouring countries are under the impression that we indeed are the like Saudia or worse. I can confidently say that people from the middle east have more positive associations towards India than Pakistan right now. If this offends you, so be it.

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

I have mostly seen negative view of Pakistan. Some Muslims think Pakistanis are destroying the image of Islam. On few occassions I have found arabs and Iranis making fun of how Pakistanis follow Islam and try to be its protectors.

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

I wasn’t talking about the forum but about conversations with random muslims from other countries.

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

I was already expecting this very predictable comment from someone, and you didn’t dissapoint me.

Calm down you. If there is anyone with a chip on his shoulder, it’s you.

Nobody claimed to be more Pakistani than you, so you also seem to be paranoid. Explans the chip in the shoulder.

I don’t see one reply that indicates blind patriotism. But the kind of replies that you got obviously wasn’t what you wanted to hear. You mainly opened this thread to hear negative stories so that your narrowminded views could be confirmed.

Well, sorry to burst your close minded bubble teetee, but most people aren’t stupid that they are going to form a negative image about Pakistan based on media coverage or whatever. Most (if not all) non-pakistani muslims I have come across have always been positive if not supportive about Pakistan/pakistanis. And these are well educated people.

Hard to digest, right?

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

No not offensive. anything coming from you. as it makes no sense .

You make up your mind first , do people believe Pakistan is becoming saudia , you believe pakistan is becoming saudia, people think pakistan is becoming saudia, you think pakistan is becoming saudia.

About first bolded statement. nice hearing something positive from you about Pakistan
Second, name those neighbouring muslims countries, afghanistan, iran…???
or the ones in middle east, the muslim countries in middle east have very good ties with Saudia.

I can confidently say that people from the middle east have more positive associations towards India than Pakistan right now: Firstly ,when you put forward a statement, do verify it’s authenticity, nobody would be interested in hearing your assumptions. yes those countries have had better relations with India since a very long time now in terms of trade ties. Whether they treat pakistanis above Indians or vice versa, lolss, other than the trade relations part, go find out yourself, then come and share on this forum. and mind telling why specifically comparing with ‘India’. or india has achieved a benchmark sortof status for the entire world or in Pakistan specific discussions. chilman kay pichay say teer na phenkain, say it in open whats in your heart.
Who says we aren’t aware of our problems. But does that mean we have to turn into media slaves. As if the local and foreign media aren’t already spreading enough pessimism, that we need people to hold such discussions, “how negatively Pakistanis are viewed in Muslim world”. Shouldn’t we be discussing our issues at hand in a solutio seeking manner, ‘so guys what I as a Pakistani should do to fix them’.
Tell me guys fairly, which discussion is more productive.
Pakistan’s image in muslim world vs Way forward - a better Pakistan

Or maybe like Cheegum brother we label all Pakistanis as ‘hypocrite muslim brothers’, remind us of our issues, and then dive back to his comfort zone. Yallah Khallas. Kullu Bakistani Majnoon, Munafiqun.

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

you chicken biryani munching quom :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

No. A lot of people can’t afford biryani. Pathetic country. Look at all the rest of the muslim countries, they eat so much.

Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

Whenever i used to tell anyone i m from pakistan their reaction was never positive and they think we are terrorists.. This is bad!

Re: Pakistan’s image in the Muslim world

I don’t think anyone goes around asking people what they think of Pakistan. You can gauge the dislike people have for Pakistan when you tell them you are from Pakistan. You know as ever other pakistani, I look paaarsshhhiian so people can’t tell I am pakistani. None of us look pakistani, don’t you know?
