Pakistan's forgotten Kabir recalled

Pakistan’s forgotten opener Shadab Kabir was recalled on Friday for the New Year cricket tour of Bangladesh.

Kabir, 24, who last played for Pakistan in the 1997/98 season, was the only surprise in the 16-member Pakistan squad.

Pakistan, led by Waqar Younis, will play two tests and three one-day games on its first official test tour of Bangladesh, starting January 3.

Chief selector Wasim Bari told Reuters that the left-handed Kabir had been recalled because he was in terrific form.

He scored nearly 700 runs in the recent Patrons Trophy competition, a wake-up call for the selectors who have also included fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar.

``We want to groom a pair of dependable openers for Pakistan for the future, Kabir and Taufiq Umar certainly are good prospects,‘’ said Bari.

The controversial Akhtar, currently playing club cricket in Australia, has been included despite missing the first phase of camp training in Lahore.

Akhtar, who was reported for second time this year for a suspect action by match officials in Sharjah, is expected back just few days before the team leaves for Dhaka.

Pakistan - Waqar Younis (captain), Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwar, Taufiq Umar, Faisal Iqbal, Yousaf Youhana, Naveed Latif, Younis Khan, Rashid Latif, Saqlain Mushtaq, Danish Kaneria, Wasim Akram, Muhammad Sami, Abdur Razzak, Shoaib Akhtar, Shadab Kabir.

that is prety strong line up .. why we need so many pacers for Bangaldesh tour??.. couple of new pacers should have given a chance . this is a practice tour .. we dont need to over-spend Shoaib and Waseem .. batting line up makes sense

Hey one more thing
These things are hard to explain
For some it seems strange... to swallow
The frontier of our minds
Is the last place we find
But maybe the first place we should go

Shadab Kabir deserved to be recalled a long time ago. This guy has a great technique and he's a gutsy player. With Saeed Anwar nearing the end of his career,Shadab has a great opportunity.

I dont see Saeed playing beyond the next World Cup - Pakistan will never be able to replace a great player like him - but they need to start looking for alternatives and Kabir fits the bill.

I personally dont think playing kabeer is a good idea.. I still remember his innings in england during 97. He has no shots at all.. plays very slow and looks very nervous.. I say Imran Nazir would have been a better choice. He is not only an attractive batsman but also a great fielder.. We need such people in the field to increase the moral.

"Sped up my XT; ran it on 220v! Works greO?_|"

Cool Heat, Ur correct, Imran Nazir is far better than Shadab Kabir, Imran Farhat or Taufiq Umer
