Re: Pakistan's first very own P2P software.
I will post the link as soon I get approval from related mods or admins.
Re: Pakistan's first very own P2P software.
After 6 months
Somone claims these pakies stole the source and its all comes down, fallin apart ...
:p
Re: Pakistan's first very own P2P software.
That's exactly why I used an open source project call GnucDNA and credit is there where it blongs...
Re: Pakistan's first very own P2P software.
^ "exactly why I used an open source ... "
Did you develop it?
Re: Pakistan's first very own P2P software.
Well done, just a little desi touch thats all.
Re: Pakistan's first very own P2P software.
why does it has to be called "PakShare" .. i mean what is so Pakistani about it? alot of Pakistanis have worked on other software projects but why call it Pakistani .. i mean anyone, any other nation would be able to use it right?
I don't mean to discourage you or anything, i think this is a great step if our Pakistani programmers are coming out to do opensource project or even if they aren't opensource but please name it so that it fits for everyone :) its a software..
I guess next time when a bunch of Pakistanis come up with a OS they will call it PakOS?
:D
Re: Pakistan's first very own P2P software.
this is cool... i love the jhanda in the taskbar :)
Re: Pakistan's first very own P2P software.
Great work ChicagoBase, i am waiting for you to post the link for the software, however I agree with Ansoon that you should rename it to something else. Doesn't have to PakShare because that way you are most likely limiting your users. A lot of people might not want to use it just because of its name.
just my thoughts
Re: Pakistan's first very own P2P software.
How did I know that there will be some people who will object on the name. Anyways let me try to explain it to you guys. It's on 1st beta so don't see much on the main page (Aaghaz) but with the links, you will see scrolling news from Pakistan, upcoming events, and I'll think up of something. 2nd, what's wrong with adding word "Pak" or "Pakistan" to the software, OS or website ahem? If some Pakistani guys create a software in Urdu, I would love to see it's name as PakOS, sure there will be people who will object on the name but that's ok.
So back to PakSharing and it's name.
1: Created by Pakistani.
2: Created for Pakistanis.
3: Provides Basic information about Pakistan on the main page.
4: It will provide news tickers and live scorecards when Pakistani cricket team is playing.
5: I don't wanna tell you guys everything, leave something for surprise :D
On the other hand I am thankful with all the feedback, some very good points brought up. At least you people didn't tell me to shut it down :D
Re: Pakistan's first very own P2P software.
but CB what i am saying is that why only for Pakistanis? I can use kazaa to get pakistani songs and movies and whatnot but that doesn't make it PakKazaa? see the idea u have is great and i fully back you on that but the name of the product should blend in and at the same time attract everyone ... i mean I can call and Word processing application that support urdu "InPage" (there is one application with that name already) but i won't call it "PakWord" see what i mean?
Re: Pakistan's first very own P2P software.
Do u have the project on sourceforge? Where can I get a hold of the src code :D What protocol are u using for the p2p communication?
Re: Pakistan's first very own P2P software.
So which P should this P be contacting? Or is that only available if i'm running PakSharing?
Re: Pakistan’s first very own P2P software.
Damn, man. What’s the big deal. Relax.
Where can I download it?
Re: Pakistan’s first very own P2P software.
I don’t see any reason for changing its name… maybe its deliberately intended for the Pakistani audience which is what I think CB wants to do by providing content specific to the needs/interests of Pakistanis.
I’d think of it as simply another collaboration channel in the Pakistani Virtual Community (???) - just as GupShup “primarily” caters towards Pakistani users…
what’s the big deal?
Good luck with your project CB :k:
Re: Pakistan’s first very own P2P software.
Thanks again for the input. I have posted this project into most Pakistani community websites to get the feedback and so far so good ![]()
You can download it from http://www.pakshare.com (will take you to chicagobase.com for now)
Source code is not available as of right now because I don’t even know if it’s working correctly or not.
It uses Gnutella network to connect peers and it searches for Hashes, not file name (Kinda like BitTorrent)
As it uses Gnutella, you can search for anything like any other P2P software but my plans are to add Pakistani nods by time and remove default nods/servers one by one unless users still want to keep it.
Also, no extra softwares have been bundled.
If this all goes well Inshallah, I will start working on first Pakistani Instant Messaging service unless GIM comes out first (Hint Hint People!!)… Then I will drop that project.
Re: Pakistan's first very own P2P software.
That poor thing :p
It looks horrible. If you need graphics help, I am sure there are ppl here who can help. ;) hmm hmm
Re: Pakistan’s first very own P2P software.
Aaouji Bismillah, help me out. Send me your e-mail address and I will send you all the images I use for nav, logo, background, icons and splash screen.
I must admit, I am very graphically challanged.
