Pakistan's Drones

Interesting article from Dawn on the introduction into service (finally) of domestically produced drones. The parts of particular note is how Pakistan is having difficulty in making armed drones, particular in finding a suitable weapon system to arm them with.

These and other drones have apparently been tested by pakistan with rockets instead of missiles (rockets being unguided, missiles being guided).

And China has been trying to sell drones that use laser-guided munitions to Pakistan.

So at any rate, soon the complaints of US drone strikes should be over because our own Army will be able to carry out the strikes instead… at last. Hopefully this won’t take too long, I want the responsibility for drone strikes to be taken over completely by Pakistan as soon as possible!

Re: Pakistan's Drones

Predator is far and away for Pakistani / chinese grasp. GPS would make an accurate target but i don't know if China is making its own GPS like the Russians or will they succumb to using american GPS?

Re: Pakistan's Drones

Predator doesn't use GPS - it fires Hellfire missiles, which are laser guided like the weapons China is offering.

GPS targetting is not used for hitting mobile targets. It is used for stand off attacks on static targets, when you don't want to get close enough to point a laser at it. Most drones weaponry tends to be laser based - the drone operator controls a laser on the drone, which guides the missile onto target without the need for satellites.

Satellites are used for Predator drone control due to the fact that the drones are operated from the continental USA. For Pakistan's purposes, drone operation would be perfectly fine through regular radio links.

Re: Pakistan's Drones

Hasn't Pakistan lost drones due to lost radar links?

Re: Pakistan's Drones

then, why Pakistan repeatedly asked the US to either give them the drones or give them the technology in order to carry out the Americans' dirty work of killing it's own people?

Re: Pakistan’s Drones

During Zia-ul-Haq times, army also demonstrated toy radio control plane and boosted that Pakistan will soon make their own fighter air planes. Where are they after the lapse of 33 years? I think U.S, is the only country in the world which has developed highly sophisticated drone technology. The accuracy can be imagined by how the last drone only targeted two rooms in between a number of rooms. Only occupants of those rooms were killed and nothing happened to people residing in the rest of the rooms. It is technology of 21st century. A war machine without pilot can strike with 100% accuracy,

Re: Pakistan's Drones

Well, the Zia-ul-Haq promise came true. Pakistan began making its owner fighter planes last year.

Aside from the US, Israel has also developed highly developed strike drone capability, while the UK and France are also testing several strike drone prototypes. China and Iran also have locally developed armed drones in operation. Most other countries with armed drones buy them from Israel.

Re: Pakistan's Drones

We are just assembling them in house from chinese kits. Perhaps, the ToT would be more than the Agosta sub ToT in the future, but I thought that we should get the facts straight here.
