Pakistan's court system

Does anybody else notice how quickly cases are closed and opened when a new government comes into power? It’s almost like suddenly new evidence is found or dismissed depending on who the case is against. Our court system is pretty remarkable in this respect.

Zardari attempted murder case rekindled

KARACHI: Justice Bin Yamin of the Sindh High Court (SHC) has suspended a 2005 court order that said there was not enough evidence to go to trial in a case in which several men were accused of trying to kill Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari. Zardari had been shifted from the Karachi Central Prison to the Crime Investigation Department establishment in Civil Lines late on May 15 1999 where he was allegedly tortured by a team of police officers from Punjab. His tongue was found lacerated, but investigators alleged that Zardari purposely hurt himself with a broken glass. They had accused him of attempting suicide to avoid a probe into the alleged double murder of Justice Nizam Ahmed and his son advocate Nadeem Ahmed. But a court that reviewed an application by Zardari under Section 22-A of the Criminal Procedural Code directed the police to register a first information report (FIR) against the then Ehtesab Bureau chairman Saifur Rahman, the then PCB chairman Mujeebur Rahman, former IG of Sindh Police Rana Maqbool, former Karachi DIG Farooq Amin Qureshi and former Karachi Central Prison Superintendent Najaf Mirza. The FIR was lodged on May 11, 2004. Zardari had filed a criminal revision application in the SHC. On Tuesday, Zardari’s counsels said that the respondents had not filed a ‘vakalatnama’ (power of attorney) so far. Justice Bin Yamin adjourned the proceedings to a date to be fixed later. If the SHC allows the application, the accused would face trial on the charges of attempted murder. ar qureshi

Re: Pakistan's court system

This is called political influence on judicial/law-enforcement.

Why isn't the laaaaaaaawyers movement fighting against this?

Re: Pakistan's court system

Is NRO still valid?

Shouldn't it be the judges in question? The current judges? :)

Will corrupt Justice Bin Yamin (and hundreds like him) go away if pre-Nov judges are restored? :)

Re: Pakistan's court system

Will they? You tell me...

It was a rhetorical question, and the answer is no. The judiciary blows with the political wind and has for decades now.

Re: Pakistan's court system

Well i guess we'll just have to patiently wait and see...won't we?!

Re: Pakistan's court system

Wait for what? We all know where this is headed and it's not independence of the judiciary.

Re: Pakistan's court system

And you know that how? No guesses please.

Because whether Ifti gets to play CJ once again or not has little to no impact over the judiciary as an institution.

^ so how are we going to have what you are looking for? Lets pin down the exact question and lets see if you have any suggestions.
