Pakistan's chances of comeback had this been 5 Test series

Its about time, PCB demands what is rightfully ours…we’ve been a prennially top performing side in tests, and our winning ratio is only second to Australia’s in the history of Test cricket…Despite this we’ve not played a full 5 test series since the tour of England 14 years ago…

If Pakistan is to be taken seriously and given its due respect in world cricket, and if it has any serious aspirations to dominate the game, its players and adminstrators in particular have to break away from the shackles of colonialism and start acting like independent and proud people, which is clearly not the case with Shirtless Khan, an ex-diplomat and an offspring of goray slaves, read nawabs/khan bahadurs…

When Aus played Eng in ashes last year, they too lost their main strike bowler, McGrath to injury and because of that they lost at least one of the matches…However, since it was a 5 test series, it gave McGrath enough time to recover from the injury and make a come back in the last match and still have a solid shot at squaring the series and not lose the Ashes…

In our case, we are so content playing even 2-test series that our former colonial masters and tormentors bestow on us every now and then, that playing a full 5 test series is aiming too high and not good for us…

Finally, had this been a full 5-test series, Pakistan would have had every opportunity to draw the series and still be the only side not beaten in England since 82-83…

Re: Pakistan's chances of comeback had this been 5 Test series

You are right. This is a pity. and its not just Cricket. Its in every part of a Pakistani's life. We don't have independent Local Politics, foreign Policy. Operation in Waziristan, PCB, Macedonia INCIDENT, Aimal Kansi all are shamefull examples of our miserable independence.

Frankly speaking, i think its not a thing we can change. Its the attitude that people and the administration of the Developing countries inherit. Thats why perhaps they are called Developing (actually they are going light yrs away from development) countries. Lets hope one day that the situation will change and we will be proud to be Muslims and Pakis and prefer Urdu over English.

Re: Pakistan's chances of comeback had this been 5 Test series

Good suggestions, but for wrong reasons that could paint your argument (perhaps incorrectly) as stemming from inferiority complex.

Yes, we should ask England to give us a five test series next time around, but it shouldn't be because we need to prove that we are no longer their colony -- that reeks of inferiority complex.

England plays a five test series against Australia, and gives it a special name, becuase they have been traditional rivals since the beginning of the game. They gave Sri Lanka and Pakistan smaller tours not because they didn't like our skin color, but because 5 test match series is more of an abberration than a norm these days. Back in the day, THEY DID PLAY 5 test match series against Pakistan in England.

As far as chance of a comeback is concerned, we need to remember that it could have been England that could be trying to level the series and hence would benefit from additional matches. Having a 4 match series does not 'purposely' favor one team over the other.

And regarding your argument about spineless PCB admins, I'd like to bring it to your attention that Pakistan's tour consists of FOUR instead of three test matches because Sheharyar Khan and PCB specifically requested for additional matches a copule of years ago. :)

The 'wrong' reasons aside, we should always be in favor of playing more test matches. In fact, I wish ICC adopted a formula to encourage (whenever possible) the participating boards to play a 3/5-3-5, i.e.,

(i) a minimum of three test matches but 5 test matches recommended

(ii) 3 20/20 if these are to be played

(iii) NO MORE THAN 5 ODIs. The 6 and 7 ODI greed by Indian board is overwhelming, and reduces interest in matches.

Re: Pakistan's chances of comeback had this been 5 Test series

There must be 5 tests and 3 ODIs and zero Twenty20 matches when Aus/Pak/Eng/RSA/India are playing.
