The PTI ‘burger activists’ protesting in Lahore and Karachi mostly composed of middle, upper-middle and upper class, educated, young people. These would be the 1% ‘fortunate’ people in Pakistan who already have what the 99% of Pakistanis dream of.
Reminded me of the wave of protests in US protesting about 1% of their population enjoying most of the wealth and income of the nation. The situation is a bit different here with the 1% protesting for something (in their mind) that would eventually benefit the rest of 99%. Traditionally, this 1% strata has been oblivious to what goes on in the dirty business of politics.
As someone originally (born, raised in the Middle East, then returned) from Lahore I can feel with every word, every like in this thread. And the column above I have rarely read faster. Agreed with every line. I have seen and experienced the feelings of people from Lahore before and after the election that wanted betterment for the country.
At the end of the day, though, Imran was not fighting for Pakistan - he was fighting Pakistan itself!
In closing, my feeling sitting right here in the center of Lahore is that as good as we tried and are trying, the PTI people in Karachi are even braver in what they are doing. The protests are going on in multiple cities, Lahore and Karachi included, but the people in the southern city are walking through hell and standing up against the visible fascists (MQM), while we had to overcome invisible ones (PML-N).
I just hope they stay safe. I would have gladly joined my countrymen in Karachi who left the comfort of their homes in their quest for justice. I would have stood shoulders adjoined with my people across the country in their quest for betterment.
Isn't rauf klasra from central Punjab as well? As for galiyaan, waleed from Lahore was doing gaaliyaan on karachiites so doodh k doodh or paANi ka paANi ka waqt aa giya hay.
