Are there many around in NYC?? Also are there many good places to eat and just hangout there?? Im from the UK (Glasgow, scotland) and potentially settling there for the foreseeable future. Im coming by myself and dont have a lot of people i know over there. Thanks :slight_smile:

Fellow desi Ny'er here as well. And yeah we have "little desi" places to eat in the city pretty much all over: in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and elsewhere too probably.

first of all i wanted to know how long it takes to commute from Queens (flushing) to manhatten and can any one let me know of any specific neighbourhoods where the desi action takes place?? and whats the public transport like there?? a car is just out of the question for me. thanks :)

The public transportation in nyc is pretty good. The subway takes you pretty much everywhere:

I guess depending on where in Flushing you are, if you’re close to the train, then the # 7 line (the purple one on the map in the link) can have you into the city in like 30-35 minutes or so probably. Maybe even less. If you’re in Queens , then Jackson Heights is the major desi areas. Lots of restaurants, shops, grocery stores, indian movie theatre etc.

There are lots of Pakistanis in NYC. Lots of desi eatries too.

Flushing is big. What part of flushing?? Like someone mentioned, public transportation is very good here. Just make sure you look at the subway/bus map if that's what you will be using.

i cant remember the name but theres a john browne high school in the area something like that. I took a look at the subway map. its somewhat similar to the london underground so i should be able to pick up on it quite quickly. looking really forward to it :D. new start. although on the down side im coming by myself. sure ill meet new people but. I think its good to go someplace not knowing anyone and nobody knowing you. it gives u that degree of anonymity. anyways i digress. thanks everyone for all the info. much appreciated. :)
