Tensions between India and Pakistan have spilled over to the cricket field after Pakistan accused their rivals of ball tampering and abusing players.
The Pakistanis reported the Indians to match referee Cammie Smith soon after the Carlton & United tri-series match in Adelaide, which India won by 48 runs.
Smith, a former West Indian Test player, confirmed that he met with officials from both teams after the match, but declined to reveal what transpired at the meeting. Indian coach Kapil Dev, however, said that the Pakistanis complained against abusive language used by his players during the match.
He also revealed the Pakistanis accused Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar of tampering with the ball in the 39th over.
“I am shocked,” an angry Kapil said. "We have never tampered with the ball and to accuse a guy like Tendulkar of doing it is absolutely ridiculous.
“It just goes to show to what extent teams go to find excuses for their defeat.”
Kapil said he had instructed his team to inform the umpires immediately if any abusive language was heard on the field.
“If that’s the way people want to play the game, so be it,” he said.
"If we are accused of using foul language, we will make sure that if others do it, we will halt the game and bring it to the notice of the umpires.
“Are we the only guilty party?” Kapil asked. “It’s nice to know no other team sledges on the field.” Pakistani captain Wasim Akram declined to comment.
Well, Well, Well !!! What is the Indian god upto, tampering with the ball now. Desperate situation lends itself to desperate acts.
